Default Recommended Jaguar mechanic in Melbourne

Hi guys,

I've been regularly taking my X-type to Jaguar for services and *touch wood* havent needed many repairs to date, but i feel that they do just the minimum required for the car and haven't had a good customer service experiences recently. Would anyone like to recommend (or warn against) a Jaguar specialist mechanic in the (South) East Melbourne area? I've heard references to Mike Roddy Motors or V&A Spiteri, but would like to get people's recommendations.

Thanks in advance...

Default Service in SE suburbs

Hullo mate I am new to Jags myself but all of my Jag owner friends swear by Caufield Jag on North Road Ormond tel 03 95782500, ask for Grahame.
I have spoken with Graham and one of the Jag mechanics Chris just recently and
as an engineer myself (electrical ) I was very impressed with their knowledge of the Marque and their customer service levels. (I have my new girl an S type R booked in for a tranny service next week) I should mention that CFJ are independant mechanics, not Jag dealer
Just my opinion.

I avoid the dealers when I can but once a year I take it to them with an oil filter and the oil and ask them to do a 'health check' (as well as change the oil), and give me a list of what they think needs doing.
From there I go to the appropriate people I have got to know in my area (inner city) who charge proper prices. eg. dealer wanted $700+ for rear brake pads for my STR (which I could fit but dont have the time), ABS brakes- $150.
It does need to see the dealer occasionally, but dont get sucked in to get them to do everything.

Hi all,

I have been taking my XJ308 and my XJ8 to Gary Ayre of Jagayre in Clayton. He rebuilds Jags, Rollers, Bentleys and such like and is very cost conscious and thourough. And a nice guy too boot!

Cheers,

Frank
