Advice on used 09 Jag XF purchase
Hi!
So, I sat in my first Jaguar on a whim 3 days ago, and now Im trying to purchase it.
I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to vehicles, and everyone, literally everyone, is telling me that Jaguars are terribly unreliable and I will spend a ridiculous amount of money on maintenance.
I do tend to like to try to service things myself, for instance, I looked up the warped leather dash issue to fully understand it and found a great video on how to replace the dash, and that is something I would feel confident doing. I did a lot of work on my first car, an Acura RL using acuraworld forums and the tips/advice of the other users there.
Besides all of the feedback, the big thing that worries me is an accident report that showed up on the CarProof report.
The car was in a single accident and the report reads as follows"
02/11/2011 Ontario, Canada Insurance Records Miscellaneous
02/11/2011 Ontario, Canada Insurance Records Fire Claim
02/11/2011 Ontario, Canada Police Reported Accident Police Front centre
02/11/2011 Ontario, Canada Miscellaneous $8,462.00
02/11/2011 Ontario, Canada Fire Claim $1,433.00
I mean, if it didnt say fire claim, I wouldnt be so worried. But it is throwing me for a loop.
10k on a front collision, I could chalk up to some bumper and headlights, but fire? for only 1.5k? what gives? Did the owner drop his cigarette and burn some upholestry?
Would any of you buy this car? Is this a bigger red flag than I am aware of? I may be blinded by the beautiful interior and brand new engine sound.
Please let me know!

Welcome to the forum aubullion,
Well maintained Jaguars are reliable - neglected Jaguars are a money pit! Maintaining Jaguars properly is never low cost so you need to really want it rather than buy on a whim.
The accident damage to the XF your are considering was four years ago so if there was anything consequential not covered by the repairs at the time, it should have shown up by now.
However, like you, I'd be concerned by the word 'fire'. Not only when you are looking at it as a purchase now but for possible difficulties when you come to sell it.

If you want advice on particular examples you are considering, post in the XF tech forum XF and XFR ( X250 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum rather than the Region forum. More members with the same model will see it there.
Good luck in the search for the right one.
