Default Secondary Turbo Actuator

I've heard that there is a "known Issue" with the secondary (fixed vane) turbo actuator.on the XF 3.0 Diesel with DTC P22D3.

This actuator sits "on top" of the turbo proper and I've removed mine an it looks perfectly normal despite having the error code.

Is the real problem with the vacuum lines or the position sensor. Does anyone know ???

Note I'm not talking about the turbo shut off valve.

Hello!
Did you manage to fix your problem with turbos actuator?
I have codes on my 2.7d S-Type (which is neatly the same engine) and I’d like to know where turbos are in order to remove and inspect it…
Are they behind wheel arches?

Thanks a lot!

Yes I fixed the problem. It was a vacuum line issue. The turbo was fine as were the shut off valves and the turbo bypass valves.
There are two solenoids on the front of the engine (right side as you look at it or left side as you sit in the drivers seat). The vacuum lines were incorrectly attached and once I transposed the lines the problem was instantly fixed.

So I would be inclined to first check all the vacuum lines for leaks, detachments etc. If its due to the turbo itself you may expect to hear "graunching" of the turbo or smoke in the exhaust.

As for fixing the problem yourself you need a workshop manual (as does every jaguar owner) which you can get free of charge on this website. Taking the turbo out is a fiddle and may not be necessary. I would check all the air hoses to and from the turbos and the vacuum lines for leaks etc in the first instance.

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your detailed answer! 🙂

I just had a look and didn't found any leaks or detachments in tubes of any kind, at least from the "over the engine" point of view.
In order to have a loot at technical schemes and localize both turbos, I downloaded and installed the Jaguar EPC from links provided in the dedicated topic.
But it seems that the diesel V6 turbocharger part is missing 🤔.

I'll try to find the workshop manuel for this particular engine on the forum (I still haven't localize the turbos).
The car is out of order for 3 weeks now, I really need to make it work ^^.

Thanks again!

Well, even with the workshop manual it seems that access and check/remove the turbos is a huge pain on 2.7d S-type…
I cannot even see it, or see if the actuator arm is moving properly on engine start of whatsoever…

I think I’ll have no other choice to bring it to the dealer 💸.

Hello, in my case it wasn’t the vacuum lines at all, but one of the turbo was very dirty so I had to disassemble it from the car (very painful), clean the inside and put it back. Problem solved, it was so dirty that the actuator arm was stuck.
