Default 1970 XKE too rich

I've been combing the internet trying to find a manual for the Zenith Stromberg 175 cd 2 carbs. Recently purchased the car and it's been driven very little the past few years. Put in new plugs in and the existing plugs were black as can be. Did piston test on carbs and both were rich but was still not positive on the adjustment location on these carbs. Drove 20 miles and pulled the new plugs and they were as black as the originals. I thought the ZS carbs had richness adjusted either from the top oil damper with a special tool or from the bottom with a nut. I included a picture that is not my carb but it is what the bottom of my carb looks like. Is that huge groove in the bottom for turning/adjusting the fuel mixture?

I have a '68 2+2 with twin Strombergs. Mine were NOT adjustable. They were too rich as well and I was told that the E-types sent to North America with Strombergs were not provided with adjustments. Recently I had mine rebuilt by Joe Curto In New York. He added parts for the carbs (from a Triumph TR6 I think) that allow them to be adjusted. Runs perfectly now. As far as I know Joe is the best place for British carb rebuilds...just takes a while to get them done, like 3 -4 months.

Thanks Alfred. I'll check a few other things like choke cable setting and timing to make sure they are good, and I may just have to live with it until I decide I can stand to have the care down for a few months while the carbs are modified. Appreciate the help!!

Kilo common issues are worn needles and seats, Incorrectly located needles, reversed choke discs, incorrect fuel pumps (too much pressure) and improper float adjustment/partial sunk float. Good luck.
