Default Any try the led dash lights?

If anyone has tried them, are they cooler? use less juice?
Is the color way off?
Even with clean grounds those gages at night are terrible.

I have converted and am quite satisfied. First, you need to decide if you want to remain with the green filters that are in the gauges. For me that was an emphatic no even though that meant some disassembly to remove the plastic filters and repainting some green areas.

The tach, speedo and 4 main gauges require 8 bulbs. The specs are an e10 socket and about 80 lumen output (about 1.2 watts). They are not common but a google search will find them. You are replacing 2.2 W bulbs so there is a power savings and significant increase in brightness. The clock uses a smaller bulb and is difficult to light to match the others. My clock needed replacing so in the retrofit I converted it to the same bulb.

After a lot of reading about color versus night vision, I decided white light was a good choice. Most important, buy a complete set with many spares. The leds invariably come from China and long term reliability may be an issue but they are cheap. After 1 year I have not had any failures.

An unexpected surprise: the dimming resistor worked well without changes. I normally drive with the panel lights on dim now. Hope this helps.

Bill44, I have done the switch and the verdict is in........
I love it!
Ground rules, my 66 has had a complete restoration.
All the wires and grounds new ten years ago with very limited miles since.
I bought it now , cleaned the grounds and its now in more use.
Great improvement with a car that's up to snuff.
Its clearly brighter but not over bearing.
These are the replacement bulb kits, not the strips.
Instead of dead its constant and draws zero in current through the very small wires.
I didn't do the choke light or directional as those cast a different tone.
Funny my interior light , I left the stock bulb as well, the tone was comparing old flood light in your house compared to new led.
The old bulb has a warmer tone.
But for the gages with the tint it just freshened them up.
I really , really like it!
So map light and interior stays old and the whole dash new led.
Great upgrade...I CAN SEE!
P.S. This might be a guy over 50 thing but I went totally blind once I hit 50!

Glad it went OK. I did not do the flasher bulbs either, too hard to reach. Do not tell me about age and vision. Next year my car and I will celebrate 50 years together. Trying to decide how to mark the event.

If you have not done so already, I think you will find replacing the external bulbs quite straightforward. Bill

Okay back on track
Id like to do the brakes and directionals
The new kits are wide square led pads, I don't like the look, does anyone have a led bulb?
I understand the directional will need a diode, any kit?
Thanks

Try superbrightleds.com. Select 1156 and 1157 bulbs for the brake and tail lights. The 425 lumen bulbs are brighter than the originals. Same page, they have a 125 lumen BA15 bulb for the license plate but they are so bright I had to partially paint the socket lenses. They also have a 96 lumen BA9 bulb for use up front.

The flasher is an issue. New LED compatible flashers have a different pinout so you will probably need resistors. I rewired my car to avoid the resistors but that is a significant effort.
