I think I've spun a connecting rod bearing in my '71 E-Type (3.8).
Is it possible to R&R the bearings without removing the engine?

 

No problem there, the hardest part is lifting the engine a bit to take off
the pan.

For lifting the engine you will need a railroad tie across the engine and
hook up a chain to lift it to remove the pan.

Then remove the bolts, push the rod with piston up and check and
replace the bearings. Check with clearance with plastic gauge.
