Just took off my distributor cap to try and find an intermittent issue I’m experiencing with the ignition cutting out on occasion and discovered a build up of oily type of condensation on the underside of the cap. Just wondering what may be causing this and what I may be able to do to stop it from happening?
I’m currently running a Crane Fireball XR3000 ignition system.
Check the distributer cap inlet vent line is not blocked or located next to the engine vent in the air cleaner.
If the inlet vent is blocked it could be drawing oil vapor up the distributor shaft.
Hmm 🤔,
This particular cap doesn’t have a vent hole. Had 2 previous, so called Lucas caps bought new, and both developed hair line cracks within 6m thus failing.
Bought this one without the vent hole and it’s lasted a few years now, but the condensation is building up. Also noted that this cap doesn’t have a gasket to seal it against the distributor body.
