Default I have cooled off a bit

I stepped away from the Jag about a week and ready with a new attitude.
Same problem as in another thread (HELP,HELP,HELP) and will start new.

What I want to do now is take the distributor cap and rotar off for inspection.
Will someone tell me what all needs to come off to get the Distributor cap off ?
Thank you for any info.

To get the cap off you need to remove the ignition leads, then undo the 3 screws holding the cap on and it will come off.

Rotor is also held in place with 2 screws. Rotor will only go one one way so you can not get this wrong.

Original Marelli caps have the cylinder number on the cap (1A 1B etc) but some aftermarket caps do not.

Keep in mind that the ignition lead positions on a Marelli cap are not the same as a Lucas.

Thank you warrjon for info.
So I can get to it without removing anything else, looks awfully tight in there.
The cruise does not work so can i remove the bellows without messing anything up and discard bellows.

Should you so choose, the bellows might be repaired. They develop leaks at the ends. Add a sealant and clamp down. I've never gotten around to replace mine. Heck, I'm not sure it worked from the time circa 2001 that I got my car..

Caveat. Take pictures or make sketches or both before taking it apart.

FYI, replacement bellows are only about $14-15 at places like RockAuto.com.

Cruise control is least of my concerns, I need to get the car running and looks like cap would be much easier to remove if bellows was gone.

It is easier, but you can just unbolt the bellows and move it out of the way, you don't need to disconnect it completely.

If you need a new cap, SNG Barratt carries a high quality reproduction made for them. The original Marelli caps are no longer made, and NOS might be so old that it could be prone to failure.

Sorry Mac forgot about the CC bellows, my car does not have it, you might need to move it out of the way.

Not for the engine, only for the authorities if you need it inspected.

You do have to have the oxygen sensor bosses welded into the pipe though, unless you swap the ECU for a non-cat spec.

recomendation is also for fitting of spacer to move the sensor out of the exhaust stream slightly when cat is eliminated.

Do your cats (not the ones in the down pipes) have O2 sensor bosses? I would suspect the O2 sensor bosses will be in the downpipes.

If your car has cats in the down pipes then you can do as may before you have done and just gut the downpipes.

Ordered a new distributor cap and rotor,(have not received it yet). A few days ago jag started right up,turned it off after a few seconds. Today went out to start again and the motor spun fast but would not start,it did not even try to start ??

What do you think ?
Thank you.
