E-Type: Torquing cam cover acorn nuts
I have the old shop manual (Bentley pub. I think), and it doesn't have torqueing figures for the chrome acorn nuts holding the cam covers.
I definitely don't want to overtighten them......a previous owner has cracked and braised a few stud holes already. I have a series 1.5 2+2 4sp 4.2.
Seems odd because you have to r+r them so often for maintenance.
Thanks!
Tim

Searching on the "other" forum suggests a torque of 7 lb-ft. So not a lot of grunt should be necessary. More important is proper positioning of the gaskets/washers on truly flat surfaces! And a sparingly applied smidge of silicon sealant on all the appropriate sealing surface (I like the blue stuff).
That # sounds proper...already got a good seal with the new gasket (used the yellow stuff), but when I tried to reuse the old copper washers (new ones on order) half the stud holes were seeping oil.
