Flat floor

Flat floor
I've had a 64 XKE FHC for about 20 years. It was a California Black Plate car converted to a Chev 5.7 ltr and an R700 trans. Everything else is Jaguar. The car is a 10 footer (looks amazing from 10 feet), Silver with gray interior. Runs fine. I'm brand new on this site and I have 2 questions. How do I tell if it is a 'flat floor,' and is it worth anything if it is or not?? Thank you for any input. Car No.890490, Body No. V8124, Engine No. RA6599-9, Gear Box No. EE14713JS.

It'll be worth something, but probably not as much as if the original engine and gearbox were still with the car. The US market is different to us in England. Here E-types fetch top money only when the whole of the car is "Jaguar". In the US, installing V8s seems commonplace, so its value may not be much less than one with the XK engine still installed.

Fraser it is largely the same over here. Lancaster your car is too late to have had flat floors from the factory. If your car has not been cut too much you could find an original engine and trans and increase the value. Almost anyone thinking about buying the car would hav thoughts in that direction. Best of luck!

Flat floor cars were made up until June 1962. You are out of luck I'm afraid. As a donor car it will have a reasonable value, but it will need modifying to put a Jaguar engine and transmission back in. Yours was made in May 1964 and so should have the 3.8 liter engine and the Moss gearbox.

If you are lucky you'll put only $70K in it and maybe get $70K out. If it isn't numbers matching you can't get to the high dollar amounts. It has a Chevy in it which means they had to modify the transmission tunnel, likely had to change the torsion bar mounts, and heavily modify the front engine cage. Depending on how they got the distributor and carburetor to clear, the firewall has likely been modified as well, the bonnet may also be non-standard. The reason you don't see many Chevy engines in XKEs is the modifications needed to make them fit are a tad over the top. And yes I have one with a Chevy 327 myself. You'd be far better off just turning this into a nice driver.
