Meet Miss Moneypenny
Hello I am brand new to the Jaguar Forum for E types. I have a 1971 XKE series II with a 4.2 engine. This has been a dream car of mine since college over 40 years ago. I named her Miss Moneypenny and can’t believe what a great condition example of an E type I landed!
Congrats ..very sweet car!
Congrats amyshirt! I watched this auction unfold on BaT, good job, you did well. I hope you have many years of enjoyment and few headaches!
Such a beautiful machine and a very apt christening. May it serve you well for thousands of miles!
it is a matte black bra that the previous owner applied. Not sure how I feel about it and somewhat concerned what is under it if I remove it.

I have a clear bra on one of my cars that was installed when the car was new 17 years ago, and I had it replaced about 6 years ago because it was starting lift on the edges. When the original bra was removed, the paint was like new, so it did its job. I had a new one installed again.
You might want to contact the previous owner if the bra was installed to protect or cover damage on the finish.
Bill.

I would vote for contacting the PO to get the story. Keeping the bra on depends on where you live and how you drive. I live in a semi rural area, roads are pretty much kept in good shape. I keep my distance from cars ahead of me and avoid dump trucks at all costs. I stripped it to bare metal and redid the paint in 1994 and until the bonnet redo currently in progress, there were not many rockchips or other surface imperfections that developed. Like most projects, it's the underlying body condition, primer choice and application and paint choice and application that will figure in to durability. Do you like the look of the car with the bra on? Your car, your decision.
