Mystery XK-E
I ran into two XK-Es at cars and caffeine today. One clearly a very nicely restored 1968 the other has body #1 and was presented as the first XK-E but it looks like a 1964 to me. Here are the pictures of both (the coupe is the earlier model). What do you think.
Right off the bat.....
XKE #1 would have a generator, the coupe in the pic has an alternator
#1 would have outside bonnet latches. This car does not
#1 would have the aluminum covering on the console. This car does not.
Cheers

Especially point No 2. Also early cars had a flat floor
Yes the Bonnet Latches jumped right out at me, forgot about the generator and I think they dropped the aluminum dash in 65 making this a 65-67 car (rocker switches on the '68). I had a 68 and a 64, the seats are newer than a 64 as well. That #1 body number. Maybe first of that year's run?
Hi everyone,
I came across this thread via Google as I was looking for pictures of the first 1961 E-Type Jag (the first to have been made that still had outside bonnet latches). I'm a professional translator and I'm trying to find out exactly what those "latches" were on this particular type of car so that I can come up with a relevant translation. Does anyone know where I could find a picture of the first E-Type Jaguar with those latches on? Or else could someone provide an exact description (what were they made of etc.)?
Pardon my lack of expertise!
Thanks a lot!

The coupe looks to be a 4.2 with its later seats, console, alternator etc etc. And thus a much later car. Great looking car never-the-less!
This is technically the first E-type still in existence.
