Default Unlumping a '72 E-Type S3 2+2 - NEED ENGINE

The V8-Conversion was a DIY butcher job by some good ole boy in North Carolina. Front Frame Rails will need to be replaced. The goal is to replace the Chevy V8 with a jaguar V12. Because I will never have the original engine, I can be creative, such as using modern EFI system and Transmission.

My research indicates that I need an original E-Type pre-HE V12 pull-out to get all the right bits and pieces I am missing. Then I can use whichever V12 engine I want. Who has an E-Type Pre-HE V12 pull out engine?

Brock

Hi bbutler455,
Sounds like a great project. You may want to try Welsh Enterprises in Ohio. They usually have used engines for sale.

I agree with Bob_S. This sounds like a great and worthy project, and not having the original engine does allow you to get creative. As Bob mentioned Welsh should be a good source for a used engine, and also the classifieds on this site. I see a good number of ads advertising cars being parted out.
Good luck with your project and do keep us posted.

Stew Jones advertises he has Factory rebuilt V 12s for E type. He has a solid rep!

I have a 1970 that was turned into a drag race car in the 1970s for some screwy reason. The destruction of the torsion bar suspension system to fit a GM V8 made putting back in a Jaguar Engine problematic. If yours has a Ford engine, you may not have this problem; however, you did mention the suspension was damaged. Given your car is a 2+2, you may want to take a different path as a V-12 rebuilt engine and trans are very costly, and not many people even know how to work on torsion bars, let alone restore that system. I just updated the V8 on my car, and even though the project cost me over $100K on top of the price of the car, it was far cheaper than taking it back to a Jaguar engine (and it's far easier to service now and has far more power). Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of that V-12 and would have loved to have one, but the costs can be pretty extreme when reversing a V8 conversion. Best of luck whatever you decide.

I converted an original 5.3 v12 in my 74 series 3 XKE to EFI system pulled from an '88 XJS. Much of what I had to do was adapt the cooling piping from the original manifolds to the XJS manifolds. It seems that a XJS engine, with EFI already in place could be a good start. Then the radiator connections are the only thing to deal with. The engine is pretty much the same except the sump is different.
The car already has a return line for the fuel (mine did at least) and a swirl can in the tank, only needed to change the fuel pump and restructure the EFI wiring harness. I also fabricated a new aluminum mount to replace the massively heavy original alternator with a newer Delco unit.

nileseh, that looks like a very clean and nicely done conversion. My compliments. In the past I have contemplated doing something similar to my Series 1.5 e-type. Not with a V12, but with a fuel injected engine from an XJ6.
Nice job.

The suspension is original but the frame rails are damaged. if I can find a bad XKE pre-HE V12 I can get the pieces I need to fit an HE V12 into the e-type. There are plenty of low-mile pull-out HE 5.3 engines. Also 6.0 HE engines but those present several issues. I am assuming a pre-HE XKE engine in good condition or rebuilt would be prohibitively expensive.
