Default VIN Verification in California

Hi, I have a barn find 1973 Jaguar XKE. Has been sitting for 30 years in Kansas. I now have it in Calif but DMV need me to get a VIN Verification with CHP. But CHP won't give me an appointment/ they don't call me back. Does anyone know how you get through this VIN verification stage?

I've been though this in California. I looked for "VIN Verifier" in google and found a mobile service who came out to look at my E-Type, which was not fully roadworthy at the time. She came by within a few days, inspected the car, verified the VIN and completed the official forms. Registering the car with the DMV went through no problem. I did have the out of state title and bill of sale also.

My ‘95 XJS had the door sill data tag wiped clean, most likely by an overly ambitious detailer at one time. I bought the car at an estate sale and had to get it registered in CA. It required VIN verification by the CHP. My local office was fairly nearby in Santa Ana. Made an appointment, showed up and got it completed. The process involves the VIN officer checking various sources of databases on every visible number on the car and your paperwork and took maybe 45 minutes. I’d recommend that you broaden your VIN officer search area to more CHP offices until you find one where you can make an appointment. I’d now like a replacement Data Tag from Jaguar, but haven’t yet found out how to get that accomplished. Good luck to you, hopefully your car can be verified. I don’t know what happens if it doesn’t pass, but it probably can’t stay in California…
