Part Compatibility with VIN

Default Part Compatibility with VIN
How accurate, or should I say how closely one follow the specifications on a part when it says "thru VIN X00000"? Every part I've seen on eBay that I wanted never even comes close to my VIN E9.....

Would a part that doesn't cover my VIN really not function or what?

most e-bay or other parts will say "up to vin #" or after vin# , if yours is not up to, then it must be after.
