Default Whole Brake System Rebuild..,

Though I have been rebuilding/refurbishing older cars for some 35 years as a amatuer without a machine shop set up I decided to have my brakes and the whole system rebuilt if for no other reason than greater safety. No past owners had ever done this and the whole system was shot. A few pictures of the rear differential out cleaned up with new rotors and calipers installed. Shocks had been replaced at some point and still ok but new bushings are being pressed in. Quite the project compared to others I have owned. Thought the others in the group new to the E Type like me might be interested in seeing some pictures of areas not usually seen by the casual driver.

Default good work!

While you are in that rear cage, if you havent already, drain , refill the diff and fit a magnetic drain plug.

Went to check up on the progress this morning. Rear differential drained, all new seals installed the unit then refilled. Thank you for your great input. It really helps us new folks to the E Type.

I'm currently in the same stages. Restoring my pedal boxes and trying to complete my own MC rebuild but not sure my cylinder bore is good enough and also prepping all my parts to start the IRS rebuild. Nice work, Thanks for posting!

Examining the brake used parts saved for examination on my 1970 it is obvious they are original to the car and totally worn out. Over the years working on vintage cars I have seen over and over where folks have spent their money on upholstery and exterior painting to make everything “pretty” yet ignore safety items like the brakes.

I knew when I bought my E Type the brakes needed a total redo so here I am at the present time. I could drive around leaving excess space between myself and a car in front, coast a lot more before a stop, but in a panic situation with a modern vehicle stopping quickly in front of me would plow into them with terrible results. It’s just not worth the risk. I want to enjoy driving this fine car safely and not end up in a wheel chair with someone feeding me with a spoon and changing my diapers. 😀
