Default Would like to buy E Type Convertible- Any Recomendations?

I am thinking about buying an E Type convertible. Any suggestions on what years are better to buy, issues or where to buy a nice driver? I do not know much about the E types and have heard they have issues. I am not into making repairs myself.

Thanks

Scott

They are old cars and will have old car issues so having a local Jag expert would seem to be a requirement for your situation. The issues you are likely to encounter are rust and dodgy rust repairs by previous owners.

For your use case you may want to contact one of the Jaguar restoration specialist like Monocoque Metalworks in MD or Classic Jaguar in Austin. You can probably google for others.

Ideally if you got a car they'd restored you could have confidence in it. Otherwise, you might end up with something like this. It's amazing what people can hide under bondo and paint.

If you can't find one from a reputable restorer then you might ask what they'd charge to fly out to inspect a candidate car. If you're paying $60k-$200k for a decent car then spending a few grand to have it professionally and expertly inspected would be prudent.

Here is Hagarty's price model for a 1970 Series 2 OTS, probably the most affordable and driveable of the topless E-types so you have a baseline on valuations.

Good luck in your search,

Jim
