Hey! I bought a used high mileage(180,000+) 2017 jaguar f-pace 35t v6 premium back in January 2025. She has been running beautifully up until a week or so. She has been having this ticking/clicking noise when idle but can be heard when driving as well. I think I may have a coolant leak as I’ve had to add more coolant as least three times in a the span of a month so i don’t know if that could be related or not. I’ll try to add a video or the engine noise if it allows. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like regular injector tick to me. These engines do not have the subtlest idle.

The water consumption is a little more worrying though.

Would it be normal to hear it when driving as well? By water consumption you mean the coolant? What’s the best way to check for a leak or would the best thing be to take it to a mechanic?

You need to check for leaks as the coolant pipes are made of plastic. Easy to find out, raise the car in a hoist then observe with a flashligh for coolant leakage

I hear the injectors on my car when driving, if I have the windows down and there is a surface that reflects the noise (wall, etc.)

Yes I meant coolant consumption . Apparently you can pressure test the system with dedicated tools.

Sooo it definitely has a leak.. woke up this morning and almost all of my coolant was gone and now im trying to find a shop to replace all the coolant lines. If anyone knows what the part in the video is called it would be greatly appreciated!

Hard to tell but it appears to be at the front of the engine - you may not have to replace all the coolant lines or take the SC off.
Also looks like there's been a **** poor attempt at a repair. This is definitely something I'd mention to the seller as it looks like they've tried to hide the issue.

[img alt="I took my car to have the spark plugs replaced. I reached 100K. They found 3 small coolant leaks in the back of engine and 2 in the front. I had replaced with aluminum tubes. They found a small leak in the engine cover and replacing the gasket along with the ignition coils.

You may want to check the maintenance records if they changed the fluids in the following.

Transmission fluid, filter and gasket
Drive Line: Gear oil for AWD

Above I had an emission smoke test. "]https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jaguarforums.com-vbulletin/920x2000/img_6961_e2dd8d0e9caa2c190bcf88bb6ea3e16ea9f074aa. png[/img]

I wish I could check the maintenance records but I bought from as is used car place. When she got her state inspection back in February it seemed okay at that point, but that doesn’t really mean anything I guess. I have an appointment to drop her off with a mechanic tomorrow so hopefully it can get resolved. I’ll keep y’all updated.

Once you find out you can let us know the diagnostic before you pour into it. If the car is overheating don’t drive. But if you can let us know to get comments. Find out the labor rate!

Because if you are Blair European Auto will do a free inspection and have Jaguar master mechanics to review what is going on. You need someone that knows and can work with you

Regarding about the engine noice, on your next oil change, use Valvoline Restore and Protect Synthetic motor oil but do a 5K mile OCI

I tried liquy moly MOS2 + some DI fuel system cleaner on mine. But I think we’ve just got to accept AJ126s have a bit of a clickety idle.

On my GT86, the actual fuel brand and octane content would have an impact on DI noises. I haven’t found the same to be true on this engine.

hey guys, finally got the report back from doing a full evaluation. Most of the stuff that was found I assumed were wrong with it to begin with. For starters the coolant hose going into the water pump was the thing that was leaking and was too big of a leak for them to do a pressure test, they recommend fixing the hose and doing another test to make sure the water pump or other lines aren’t leaking as well. I recently found out I don’t have a drive shaft to make it all wheel drive.. it apparently broke? They noted that the transmission cooler lines have been damaged potentially due to the drive shaft breaking. The engine valley has fluid in it which could be from a coolant line or other fluid leak and want to do further testing to see what’s going on. The underbody shield was also cracked and damaged, probably from the broken drive shaft, but I will look online for that part. Let me know if you want to know the estimated cost they quoted me to fix the things.

Those are caused by someone not doing the proper maintenance. It’s sounds like you need to do some repairs to put it back in order. Their is probably more needed. But to get it back in shape may cost. What is the labor rate?

You may want to look for parts like the underbody cover from LKQ or Salvage yards that may have cars that have been totalled. They usually have guys that’s may be able help replace certain parts you need for the body.

what is the mechanic wanting for repairs?

They gave me estimates for these items, the price I’m putting includes labor and parts and will be rounded up to save time. Removing/replacing the skid plate($770.00), my skid plate currently has zip ties holding it together, but I declined bc I feel like I can get one myself and replace it. Removing/replacing the drive shaft(3,108.00) which I declined. Engine oil UV dye test and clean($205.00) this is bc they found coolant/oil in the valley so they wanted to run this to see if I had an oil leak on top of coolant leak but I declined for now. Remove/replace coolant hose($806.00) the hose attached to the water pump is what is being replaced then they will do the pressure test to determine if there are other leaks, I approved for them to do this. Remove/replace transmission oil coolant pipes(1,138.00) they wanted to do a full transmission fluid change on top of that but that made is closer to $1,900 so I declined that part. So all in all I will be paying about $2,231.00 in repairs for a car I paid $7,500 for.

I get it! You’ve made an investment and unsure whether it’s worth puring more money into it. I looked at the Kelly Book and for the F pace with 180K miles is valued at $8 and $10K. Based on your purchase and what you committed to is at par. From what you wrote about the service mechanic they are given you a hand more so than a fist. I paid $800 to replace the transmission fluid, gasket and filter; which seems fair. The drive line needs to be repaired to get the AWD operable. The engine leak and test are necessary to make sure where it’s coming from. I don’t understand your entire situation but you may need to put the money your mechanic is suggesting to make sure it runs efficiently and more important safe, before it leaves you stranded or damage more and loose your entire investment. It’s your choice and we can NOT make the decisions for you.
