Hello Everyone!

I'm totally new to owning a jaguar, I bought a used 2018 Jaguar F Pace 20D for my Daughter to drive to school. I've had it 2 weeks and now it's saying Restricted Performance. I've tried unplugging the battery to reset everything, didn't work. I took to AutoZone to read the code and it was P0251. I will attach what the read out said.

I noticed on the Carfax History on 2 Separate Occasions it says PCM reprogrammed I'm wondering if the computer just needs it's brain cleared, or maybe this needs reprogrammed again? Any help would be appreciated, car was running great, I can't imagine its a serious problem?? I live in a small town as well and no jaguar dealers, closest one is 4 hours away. I was curious too if I can buy the Programming tool and fix this myself. Any Advice?

Thanks in Advance.

I did the Service Reset as well to no avail. I'm pulling the ECM Fuses out and leaving out for 30 minutes to see if that might clear it too.

Hi @rham6580

It looks by the actions you are taking, you are trying to delete (erase) the fault code(s) (showing a P0251) expecting that everything will be OK. The fault is appearing because you have a hard fault that needs to be corrected. Otherwise, the EMS will continue to produce the same fault until repairs are made, no matter how many times you delete it or disconnect the battery, etc.

And to another question you made, no diagnostic tool is going to delete this P0251 without the repair. As soon as the repair is done, then ANY OBDII Canbus tool, even cheap ones can delete the code. But, you have to accept, the car needs a repair first.

I do not know diesels very well, but it sounds like you have a fuel regulation issue. You probably do not need a Jaguar dealer, per se; instead, look for an independent diesel repair shop close by. Get their analysis. OR, if you just purchased the car, take it back (if a dealer) tell them there is a CEL and you cannot pass emissions in your state.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I was thinking at 1st maybe the code was a fluke, the computer just needed it's brain cleared.

I'm thinking maybe the fuel filter or an injector, fuel filter seems to be an easy try, not too complicated of a repair but not sure I want to replace it if it won't fix the problem. I don't get it seem to run fine the previous day, got on it pretty good and then just turning down the street and put a little on the pedal, not much and there it was.

P0251 seems like a generic code, could be several different things, just hope it doesn't cost me a bunch in diagnostic and guess repairs, just bought it, but it was a used car from a Toyota Dealership, maybe I'm the fool, real nice looking car though, seem like it was taken care of.

Hi again,

Even though you bought it from a Toyota dealer, even if it was AS IS, I would still take a chance and contact the dealer. I would tell them the car only ran for two weeks then produced a CEL that prevents you from passing the State emissions test. The operative in my last sentence is - Passing the State Emissions test. It's important that you make that argument. If the dealer decides to assist and repair it, it will more and likely be the state requirements.

I think I noticed a lot of miles on the car if that is accurate.

Ok I might try the dealership, yes the mileage is accurate 135,000 are these cars known to break down around then or have issues when they reach higher mileage?

Like I said I'm a total newbie to Jaguar, but the car looks great, test drive was good, what luck.

No hidden meaning about the mileage, just that it is up there. 100,000 miles on any car is up there. But nothing else meant by it.

Please try the dealer as a first try! Worst that can happen is they say no. That's not harmful, just eliminating first things first.

Oh No offense taken, like I said I'm a total newbie to Jaguar, I was struggling to find a car for my daughter and then this one checked all the boxes and a decent price and I went for it the next day.

I did some due diligence, read reviews, checked Carfax, test drove it, but just like life there is no guarantees lol. I stick to used cars mainly even for myself as they just depreciate so quickly.

I'll check with the dealer I bought it from and see what we can do. I'll give an update once I get it sorted it out.
