4 block InControl update to 3 block - risk of bricking?
My wife just purchased a 2017 F Pace, 3.0L. We're in Canada. Looks like the previous owner didn't do any updates to the InControl Touch Pro head unit, so it's still the 4 block interface, with no SOTA capability.
Called two different JLR dealers in my area to book a service to have it updated to the latest 3 block version with SOTA, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay...but both told me there is a risk that the update could brick the head unit. And that replacing the affected modules would be in the thousands of $$. One said the risk is minor, the other said it's significant, but both said they've seen it happen.
Does anyone here have any knowledge or experience about this, or can confirm/deny the risk of having this update done?
Thank you.

"This is a known issue and is covered in the workshop manual. It says if the diagnostic device says restart you must ignore it and follow a set procedure. If you don’t it can make the audio unit ‘unrecoverable’ as they put it.
Unfortunately many places including dealers do not bother reading the workshop manual and just follow onscreen instructions then try and get you to pay for their error.
I have a 2017 and mine has been upgraded and it’s great. It was done before I got it.
I suggest you hunt for someone who has actually read the manual."
Yesterday I wrote a PEC email to italian Jaguar distributor, but I have no answer. In attach you can see the Jaguar bullettin; all I know is that they had to suspend the updates between 2017/2018 because some garages didn't apply the correct procedure. Then, they started again
