I'm looking at an F pace with the 2.0 diesel engine, 240 hp version, but it's done 75,000 miles. What should i be looking for and considering? What experiences with reliability on high mileage cars do people have? Any help much appreciated.

 

Hi Malcolm,

1. 75,000 miles is not high milage for a diesel.
2. Any second hand vehicle is always a gamble. Make sure it was serviced properly. Pay for a pre-purchase inspection by a third party, even if you purchase from a dealer who tells you that they inspected the car.
3. Automotive forums are where you will usually read horror stories. You rarely hear from the hundreds of owners who are perfectly happy with their car and never had a problem.

I've put several earlier Jaguars over 100K miles and a couple over 150K so high miles alone is never a particular cause for concern to me. However, I'm less impressed with the robustness of the 2.0 litre in either petrol or diesel variants. Emissions regulations have forced design decisions which don't aid longevity. As Stu wrote, you don't hear from happy owners on forums but there are definitely more trouble reports across the net on these latest generation engines.

It appears lubricant is considerably more critical than it used to be. The maximum JLR recommended oil and filter change is 12 months and more frequently with high miler vehicles. The recommended oil specification has also been amended. Viscosity remains the same but blend has been revised. I would closely check recommended service schedules have been observed.
