Default Stupid Question!

To All,

When does a car become "high mileage"? From what I have found it is 75,000. Ok - so what say you all?

My car just pushed 60,000 and I am looking at oil options. I have looked for the GTX Magnetec 5W-30 as posted earlier, but I have not found in U.S. Is there equivilant on U.S. market?

As always - thanks gang - you are the best!

D

On an X-type it is high mileage when the wty runs out. (50k) (sell it!)

On a Lexus it is 175k

On a BMW it is 125k

On a Mercedes it is hit or miss..... roughly 25k on the ML [8D] to 150k on the CLK and E-Class.

Maintenance is more important then mileage figures . It makes you ensure your car serves longer

One put it much too well, although I think the X-type hits high mileage at about the 75K miles platform. All subjective to how people treat and run the car and stay up on maintenance.

All relative and down to maitenance I'd say

Peugeot 309 GLD 195k miles in 3 years
Ford Mondeo 1.8 tdi 160k miles in 3 years
Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdi 170k miles in 3 years
Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdi 155k miles in 3 years
Saab 93 1.9 tid 67k miles in 2 years

Above are some of the cars I have owned in the last 12-15 years or so and all by your calculations I guess would be considered high mileage. They were all maintained regularly and whatever work was needed was done and I had very few problems to report.

Says it all in my book

Jim
