Obelix, when I buy oil filters, I get the Jag brand filters for my XJ. I have found them on E-bay for $15 each. You need to buy 4 at a time to get that price, but when a single filter through the dealership is around $85, seems pretty cheap if you ask me. You should be able to find a similar deal for the F-Pace.

As for the oil, that is a discussion that has been asked more times than I care to admit to and what the answer always seems to come down to is that Jaguar has a very specific standard that they have worked with Castol to market. With some time, the other brands will do the testing to say whether their oil does or does not meet the Jag requirement. In most cases, even though the oil does not say it meets the Jag spec, it does. Sticking with a major brand name oil will help ensure long life of your engine with no major failures. I have used a few different brands of oil in my XJ with no negative signs.

This might as well be the case on your S-type, over years Jaguar made some strange engineering decisions with older models. However, I am pretty sure drain plug in V6s is at the bottom of the oil pan.

According to oil analysis, JLR recommended oil has higher level of various metallic additives. I am not a chemist, so I don't really know if it is important consideration or marketing gimmick.

However, what is already known is that direct injection engines are prone to sludge and timing chain failures. BMW had a serious problem with sludge and were forced to reduce change oil interval. Meanwhile, they did not offer compensation or warranty repair to owners that had to pay for labor intensive process of wallnut media blasting that includes partial engine disassembly.

So my guess is as follows - additives in JLR recommended oil are there to address sludge build up issues. If you follow interval for oil changes it is important to use that oil. However, if you change your oil more often you probably fine with any synthetic oil of correct viscosity.

If you did any research at all, you would find that your assumptions are incorrect.

Please stop misleading the OP.

I think you should double-check before posting, this would prevent you from being wrong again.

Just to save you the trouble:

Please read from post 35ish onwards where it shows the oil suction tube being at a lower level that the drain plug

I like a drain plug to change the oil, makes it drain properly, and I don't mind putting the car on ramps, makes me feel like I accomplished something. I do my oil changes myself every 5k with Mobil1 full synthetic on all my cars, Jag says every 16k between oil changes, wtf! 5qt jug at Walmart are super cheap compared to buying quart bottles separately, so there's no reason to wait that long to change the oil. Waiting for K&N to make an oil filter for the F-Pace, unless you guy know if there's one available for that engine on another Jag model, then kindly share the K&N oil filter number for the V6.

My owners manual advises 20k oil changes on my 2.0d; where is 16k coming from?

I plan to go in at 10k, regardless.

Also, aren't all new F-Paces under full service coverage for 5 years/ 60k miles? If so, why would you do your own oil change?

In section 4 of the how to sticky thread, shows 21 or 16k first service. Oil change is a pita in the F-Pace anyway, plus it takes only one type of oil (castrol edge professional E 0w20), easier to get it done at the dealership, every 10k like you said is more reasonable, we're talking oil here, not trans fluid, so why they think it's ok to wait that long to change the oil is beyond me.

Hey Guys, FYI sucking oil out is standard marine practice! did it for forty years without any problems..........took a 5 galleon round gas can and mounted a Jabsco Electric Drill Pump on the filler cap and used an electric drill the run it.
Very simple to use, no mess; when full just take can to WalMart!!

But most marine engines do have a separate extractor pipe on oil pan or you can use the dip stick pipe...................glad our XK8 & XK has drain plugs; still use the 5 gal. can!

Cheers, Adrian

I bought this and used it in my xfr and xf for 6 years. I did attach a simple silicon tube to make it easier to attach to the oil tube.

Simple pump and let physics take its course.

Amazon Amazon

Off topic, I have done the drain plug method as well. I do the drain plug method every 3rd oil change.

What type of Oil Filter will last 1 year without breaking down ?
I wouldn't trust a filter for 16,000 miles, never mind the oil.. going from winter to summer is a bitch on a engine....
its cheaper to change the oil then the engine... and you will have piece of mind..
Bad enough my 35T F-pace doesn't have a Dipstick and i have to trust a electronic gauge to measure the oil level
