$200 for wheel rash repair?
I was quoted $200 to refinish a charcoal gyrodyne with some curb rash (2 scuffs). Was told they remove the wheel, machine the face and reclear coat. I was thinking I could get a new wheel for $400 or so. Does this seem like a high price or is this just the right way to do this work? Not many shops in my area that do this.
Dealer charges $150, got done direct from same guy for $75 cash. Got his name from a friend at another dealer. He is moble and does a group of close together dealers, he's a franchise so i assume this is common.
It's going to be $125 MINIMUM for any respectable, professional curb repair. I would not trust anyone who offered to do it for less. Then again you CAN do it yourself for about $25 and KNOW you did it right but how many here would even attempt it?
Use a national brand like KwickSilver or RimGuard, etc

Yes, fully refinished. By the way when I had a Merc the dealer charged $250, same guy still charged me $75. Same as he charged dealer!

We all have skills and lack thereof of certain things and I am a poor parallel park person.
Just a matter of time and it shall be heartbreaking

Funny a female friend of mine is a horrendous driver on the road but she can parallel park like a zen master.

1. remove wheel
2. remove tyre
3. chemical strip the finish
4. repair any imperfections
5. polish/re-paint
6. clearcoat
7. refit tyre
8. balance
9. refit wheel
That's a lot of work and the cost you were quoted is certainly much higher than in the UK but competition here is quite fierce with many specialists around.
The difference between the website $125+ and the actual $200 quote could be:
1. the 'scuffs' require more work than you think
OR
2. the shop's perception of your ability/willingness to pay
I'd ask the Dealer for a quote just to ballpark this figure.

Sounds like a fair price to me. Just mounting a tire costs 25. And many of these clowns will actually damage/scuff/gouge the wheel when they mount a tire ...lol... I wouldn't try to go cheap on this if you want it done right. Or if you want a new DIY project, could try going that route.
sounds like a good price to me. OTOH, I had the AMG wheels on my MB "fixed" the same way; the assurance was that you wouldn't be able to tell.......well, that's true at 10' away but up close it's very easy to see if you know what you're looking for.

I'm having all 4 wheels redone and color changed next week. $600 for the four of them.
-remove tire and tpms.
-Chemical strip
-Repair light rash on all 4
-Powder coat the entire wheel including the barrels.
-Machine finish lip (maybe, I'm not sure I want it yet.
-Powder coat all of the wheel in clear.
- Remount and balance.
To me, that's a lot of work for $600. It's nasty work too.
I cut corners on having it done once and the paint flaked away 2 months later.
