Default 10 inch Nav screen upgrade

Hi guys,
this might be useful to anyone who desires to change the smaller 8 inch navigation screen to the larger 10 inch Nav screen.

The question is, is it straight forward, plug & play ?

You can look into it.

The install is pretty straight forward on these units. You will need to swap the main PC board from the original unit into the new one but it isn't very hard. The whole process took about an hour and a half getting all the wire bundle in properly and such. Once installed everything has been working as it should. The only catch I had was a literal one. The upper bevel of the new unit needed some slight adjusting so it did not interfere with the ac vents operation.

@Tracy Rominger did you install the Viknav unit that the op references above? It looks like a pretty good unit and decently priced

There are several brands out there for the same basic units. From what I have seen they all
work well.

I purchased the Viknav unit and just completed installation in my '16 convertible. It took a lot of back and forth with their rep in China but got everything configured and running. I'm a happy camper now.

@graybeardnw does that unit retain the stock electronic controls and just switch back and forth between that and the VIknav OS, or is it all just Viknav (Android?) controls? I'm particularly wondering if the Viknav would work with a car with the Dynamic controls for suspension, etc.

Did you retain all of the stock physical controls, like steering wheel button functionality?

Yes all of the steering wheel and other buttons work as OEM. They provide a link to an emulated OEM screen showing the Jag buttons on the left/right and center screen display, so anything from the OEM screen is still controllable.

What was the back and forth with them about? I purchased this kit and I am currently disputing it with them, as what they sent me did not match the description. I did not even get to the point of trying to install it. Still sitting new in the box. What problems did you run into? Might be worth noting here for other users that are also having problems.

Mostly software/function config issues, like changing C to F for temp, getting the display to show the rear camera in reverse and getting the setting correct for displaying the original OEM screen. Now, there was an issue on the chassis-- they have it designed as a separate metal "box" that holds the OEM circuit boards transferred from the old head unit that attaches to the back of the new head unit by 4 screws. it was not aligning well in the "hole" of the dash and I ended up removing the mounting screws and putting it in first (connected by the ribbon cable) then inserting the new head unit. It was a very snug fit for sure but finally assembled as needed.

Did you use their microphone or does it allow you to use the OEM mic? What about the GPs antenna. Did you have to use that. I don’t really want all these extra adapters and wires to run.

The microphone is built into the head unit so there's no need to use a separate outboard mic. I did have to connect up the GPS antenna though and I ran the cable under the center console and then over to the area behind the passenger seat if it works fine
