My dealer said "those Ultra Metallic Paints will cost $4,900 (the third row, above) and the Special Vehicle Operations paint colors will cost $8,900 ( the 4rth row)".

That's good info. Given the cost of the cars I'd say that's a relatively trivial increase to get the color you want.

Wish this had been around when I bought mine.

 

Forgive me for saying it once again. JLR is adopting the Porsche everything is optional if you want to pay for it philosophy. Personally I like the idea of more choices and being able to order exactly what I want. Of course, if the pricing is impossible, then it really isn't a choice. I don't know if 5K and 9K are market or not. Strikes me as rich for catalogued not custom colors.

 

Yeah, $8900 seems like a lot of money to get a color similar to what I have today, especially since I lease for 3 years.

Love Madagascar Orange - not at $9k though! Think Firesand was less than $2k option on my car.

JLR seem to be vastly increasing pricing options on things like paint.

 

Firesand was no extra charge for me.

 

Is there a difference between IRR and Spectral Racing Red?

 

Based on this chart it appears that although IRR is no longer available, JLR now has another name (Spectral Racing Red so it will now be SRR I guess) for nearly that exact same color at an additional $4,900. Wow! So happy to have snagged one before JLR loaded on the "vanity" up-charge! LOL

 

I had to get a pot of IRR made up at the car shop last week (scratch on my wife's XE, we both have IRR). Fun fact - it is made up of 7 different colours.

 

You might compare the formula to that for Spectral Red.

Comparing colors across electronic displays and guessing about how they look in real life is kind of a fool's errand.

The example here is that I own an IRR car and it looks a hell of lot more like the SRR swatch in this photo.

It will however be very interesting to see a picture of two cars in IRR and SRR side by side (in the same Picture).

 

Exactly I work for a paint company and even using calibrated monitors on the computers we use to measure colour we don't compare them visually on screen

 

It doesn’t matter if the colours on the palette don’t actually match the paint on the car. What the palette colours show is that IRR appears to be a different colour from SRR.

If the colour printed isn't accurate then it matters a huge amount. This is from a 2014 F Type brochure and seems to be a lot closer in colour but it could still be nothing like the real thing.

 

The problem is that IRR in particular has a wide range of "shades" depending on the light or angle. It can be almost pink in very bright sunlight and almost oxblood or maroon in the shade. My car and my wife's are both IRR but even looking at them in the garage side by side sometimes they look different colours, due to where the light is coming on, or the angle etc.

The SRR looks a bit more sparkly to me.
