If you need that you definitely shouldn't buy a stick!

I looked at it and thought the same. The manual manual is for rookies.

So that's what that third pedal is for!

It is well-written and, I guess, for a strict beginner* it could be quite useful but like surely everyone here I simply watched someone else (to grasp the simple concept) and voila! Then, it's just a matter of doing it.

*The operative words being strict beginner. But then you have to wonder: how many strict beginners are buying and driving Jaguar F-Types?

MINI has done something similar to boost the demand for MTs in order to maintain economies of scale. In MINI's case, however, there may be some benefit, as their target audience is probably much junior to that of the Jaguar.

Jag has stated that they are hoping that as many as 10% of F-Type buyers opt for the MT to justify the decision to offer it. In Europe, no problem. In the U.S., unlikely, as most folks here are seduced by the massive power of the V8 which will not be offering the MT for a number of valid reasons.

As a road racer from a couple decades past, I will gladly give up a couple hundred horses to feel I'm in full control of the engine. Never mind that a computer could control it far better than I.

I am with you on the above. I am considering an F-type S coupe with a manual tranny. If I cannot shift a car myself, I do not want it.

I want an FTYPE coupe but at the price of the FTYPE there are so many other cars vying for my attention.

I remember reading posts on Mini forums a decade ago where new members who had only ever driven automatics were asking how difficult it was to drive a manual...

When I sold my TT-RS it was to a person who had only driven a manual once before and that was test driving a different TT-RS. I was scared fitless during that test drive. Lucky for me, he took the car.

That's actually a nice document.

I do wonder about the 10% estimate for taking up the manual though. Members who are enthusiast enough to post on forums like tend to be a smallish subset of owners and I worry a little that the take up is not going to be as high a Jag thinks. I know my local Porsche dealer told me that for them manual sales were all but drying up.

Still, very much looking forward to taking a test drive in the manual F. It's going to be a blast to drive!

We all had to start sometime - and at one point, everything is new! - and I'm not about to make fun of someone just starting out driving a manual. The point is while the Jaguar Manual [for Manual] is amusing to read and well-written - as I previously mentioned - but learning to use a manual transmission is much more about doing it rather than reading about it.

And, as I also previously wrote, I can't imagine that there will be many [any?] F-Type 6-speed buyers/lessors not familiar, never mind adept, with driving a stick.

What do I know?

Relax Swajames. After all, F-typical is driving an automatic too! As he says, automatics are rare in Europe. I looked at renting one in Ireland, so I wouldn't have to deal with:
1. Driving on the wrong side
2. on very narrow, twisty country roads
3. while the stickshift is also on the wrong side.

I think the auto would have been something like triple the price of a manual. I ended up getting a very expensive taxi.

For the avoidance of further deletion, could you please clarify how the specification of cars used to train drivers in the UK is offensive?

As I'm sure you already know, that content was fine. The comment about dementia was not. I'm sure many forum members have family members who have been impacted by dementia and it's not appropriate.

Being confused is not a bar to driving in the UK, as mental competence does not form part of any Driving Test. Hence, my comment.

Apologies to Swajames if this touched a nerve.

I think you'll find that's not necessarily correct, you would need to advise the DVLA of your condition.
Anyway let's not veer off topic.

Gratefully accepted. All the best.
