Question 2017 map update...$199?

Received this email a few days ago...it shocks me that a prestigious company such as Jaguar wouldn't include this at no charge.

Whoops, sorry...didn't see this:

No different from the other players like BMW, Audi etc. Note that navigation.com isn't solely Jaguar...

The mapping IP is not owned by Jaguar. It's owned by Navteq that supports most of the other German car manufacturers' mapping (remember, your Jag is 55% German). You can't expect the carmakers to support the cost of the updates ad infinitum.

One more reason why Apple Car Play and Android Auto are the future.

Default 2017 map updates for 2012 XJL

Newbie here....So I went off the deep end and ordered the new map update for my 2012 XJL. I went thru the install which took about 2.5 hours with the engine running and it completed and the system restarted, but I cant really tell if anything changed. I have my doubts that it really did install anything. I thought there would be some identifiable changes that would be different, but I cant tell. Anybody gone thru the pain of this update and can tell me what has changed other than adding roads?

Thanks

Seattle Jag

Yes but getting the TMC working is taking a bit longer.
