Just considering some options when my lease ends in October, looked at the BMW M2, the '18 Audi Quattro S5 coupe and obviously buying out my car which just turned 7k today.

We were coming back from our Costco run this morning when a new LC500 caught our eyes...especially my wife's. So much so that we circled back to the dealer when I noticed the MSRP still in the passenger window.

Went back and test drove even thought they said they wouldn't allow them this morning, I went back in the Jag of course, maybe that had something to do with it,lol.

Exceptionally solid car with plenty of power, they had 2, one was black with the c/f roof and was inside, sold. That was $102k, this one is $101k with more options to be had.

 

Everyone is entitled to like what they like, but wow. Looks like a Prius on steriods. A blend of a bunch of cars thrown together.

 

Depreciation on these is eye-watering. Make sure you understand what the total cost of ownership is going to be before you drive one off the lot.

I always find it interesting what people cross shop to the F-type. I think everyone agrees that the F-type is a classically beautiful, supermodel-esque sports car, and yet people commonly cross shop them against a C7 corvettes, GTRs and vehicles like this, which i think are just extremely ugly by comparison. Shows maybe the looks aren't that important for a lot of our members perhaps?

 

I love cars and I like driving them. I think F-type competitors are Corvette C7, BMW M4, Mercedes AMG SL63 and 911, with honorable mentions of Caddillac ATS-V and Ford Mustang GT350. Lexus isn't on my list.

(with reference to cross shopping against other cars) maybe a bit "been there done that". I loved my first XF and had it 4 1/2 years, so I got a new one. But I'd been there done that, even though it was better and had the flashy LEDs and a bigger engine it was a bit of a yawn, so I only had it a year before I turned it over for the XKR.

Pretty hard to find something affordable to replace an F Type, though. Pretty front engined 2 seater or 2 + 2 with decent tech, for me the only real contender would be a DB11 and they are too rich for my blood.

 

I can see why the car is appealing to some. More radical styling. Not my preference though. The interior is more curvalinear. The steering wheel seems to look a sine like wave, that mimics the doors. Very different than the exterior. The corvette starts to venture into this territory on the exterior. There is a new Cadillac commercial with a car that has more classic, less angular styling than their norm that looks like it could be an interesting development.

If you like it, buy it (or lease it). Life is short. You can have throw down with an f type.

Would never consider an American car, unless it's a truck...in which case I have no choice, that's why I own a 2500HD crew cab long bed.

I like the S5 coupe a lot but am seriously worried about German over-engineering. Wifey likes this a lot and she's stroking the check, you know what they say about a happy wife...

 

I'm iffy on the styling overall but can't get over the grill. pass.

They are targeting the S coupe with this car. I seriously considered it but it needed to have AWD.

 

I was enjoying the view from the balcony of a friend of mine today. The lines of the F Type are gorgeous, pure art, beautiful because so simple. Cure of taste... How can one exchange this lines and spirit with the Frankenstein?

 

I would like to warm up to any Lexus product and the camel interior shown on the other post regarding the LC500 was attractive, but this interior is just too busy to have the look of luxury. And the exterior, what can you say, every Lexus have faces that only a mother could love. I do applaud them, however, for having the guts to put out a new product in the 2 door, luxury GT segment, a segment that doesn't have a lot of buyers anymore.

 

Its curves vs angles. I do believe the FTYPE is a true beauty that is hard to find a true contemporary match for in terms of styling and value. I can partially appreciate the LC500 for the rear haunches and how low to the ground it is. I have real styling problems with the way the roof line down to the trunk is broken. The DB11has the same affliction and it destroys the linear lines that for a truly beautiful and graceful design need to remain as long as possible. The biggest "NO!" for me with the LC is the Cylon (aka Battlestar Galactical) grill which I find to the most objectionable of all designs in cardom. Of course my opinion is only worth my opinion.

 

I test drove the S5 back in 2012 before I bought the XF. Felt front end heavy, but I thought it was one of nicer styled Audi's. They've seem to have made it less curvaceous..

 

+10 on the battle star grille. Redesign there may lessen the intensity of the other elements.

 

Lexus is trying to hard to be " cutting edge " with its appearance. It's just not a good look, in my opinion.
But it will sell. Just like when BMW released the X6 SAV . my goodness, what an ugly design. Looks like a turtle on mega steroids. And yet... people buy it.

 

You're right there. The I8 is quite popular for god knows what reason.

 

I don't hate this car but i just dont like the grill on the lexus nowadays. Plus this trunk/backside looks weird. Also, I see lexus all the time on the roads, as opposed to jags. I like the exclusiveness. To the OP if you are looking at audi's why not the R8???
