So I figured out a few things with the 2018MY navigation...
1) you can get colored traffic lines on roads
2) there is a separate “layer” for traffic incident list
3) maps updated automatically when sim connected (or at least mine did the first time the initial dealer-installed sim was used)
4) custom searches are cool for things you commonly search for - like your favorite gas vendor (e.g chevron)
NOTE: the Pink lines seem to be freeways, yellow seem to be thoroughfares, and white seem to be street. Green is “no traffic” and not shown in my pic is a dark yellow/orange for slower, and red for backed up.
Clicking on an incident shows details (no pic)
The custom search has to be completed, then show details and then you can see it. It says to “main screen” which I thought was the infotainment main/home at first, but it is the main nav screen that pops up at start and when you stop for a bit.
I recently had a 2019 loaner XF with this navigation system. I actually read through initial agreement, and you agree to being tracked and your data sold to third parties. I recommend removing SIM card and not agreeing to any click-throughs. More so, they implemented IN CAR ADVERTISING via GPS!!! When you pull to a stop light it highlights local McDonalds and WallMarts and such WITHOUT you asking for any of it. There is absolutely no reason why some traffic updates would require such massive breach of security AND having to suffer advertising.

mine might be different as it doesn’t highlight businesses - maybe I don’t have one of the options turned on?
I did notice after a day of multiple small trips, the system uses ~300-400k of data each time sim activates (essentially each time car is started). I only had two trips where I turned on nav as I was testing it and capturing screenshots above, but all other times it still used data. Not a lot, but I am going to turn mobile data off and only engage it on longer trips where I want the in-dash nav to show traffic - my iPhone is what I use for daily commute traffic checks.
