2021/22 P450 vs. R - Differences
Hello all, I'm looking to get a 2022 Ftype next year here in US. I leaning towards a P450 due to the price point but also it being lighter/RWD. I'm also thinking once I get the P450, I can get the VAP tune and pulley set and get closer to R performance levels. What I'm not sure is differences between P450 and R in stock levels. Does anyone know if the engine is exactly the same other than the tune? Any mechanical differences within the engine block, cooling and drivetrain overall(outside of awd) ? Any differences with Transmission tunning? Thanks in advance!!
If you plan on tuning it you might consider get a dedent used one.
IMO a big advantage of buying new is the 5 year, 60K miles warranty with annual services and roadside assistance included.
I would guess that as soon as you start messing with tuning, you will invalidate the warranty and perhaps other services.
Also, especially if you live anywhere that gets ice/snow or significant rainfall, you should not underestimate the benefit of AWD.
The car literally sticks to the road in high speed cornering. I have not yet tried mine in icy conditions.
Lastly, apart from the initial $10K difference between AWD and RWD, depending on the options/packages you choose, the price will likely be at least $10K more delivered.

Exactly the same transmission including the tune.
The VAP tune will take you over and above R performance, except from a standing start (RWD vs AWD traction/grip).
Thank you all for the responses. This almost seals the deal for me for P450 RWD. Glad to hear that the engine is simply de-tuned and the transmission tune and rest of the drivetrain is identical.
Do you know if there are any differences in Intercoolers? I hear that's the main challenge with V8s in general as the power increases, cooling seems to become a bottleneck, at least based on what I have been reading.

My V8S is tuned to ~650HP via VAP pulleys and tune. I have 1 heat range lower plugs, but that is about it for heat management. I drive it hard in 100+ F temps and haven't had any cooling issues. I have noticed that the ECU will pull timing like mad (up to -20 degrees) if IAT rises over 160 F.
There is always water / meth injection if you are worried about heat.

I would go to the Jaguar website and do a "Build Your Own" exercise with both vehicles. Then look at all the standard features of each. There may be differences in things like brakes and wheels or features that you may want that will cost extra on the P450 RWD but are standard on the R. Or not.
But it will only take a few minutes to compare the two. Personally, I think the P450 RWD with a lot of options added would be a very nice car at a reasonable price and you can do the pulley and tune once you have driven the car for a while if you feel the need for more power.
