Not if the moron caused the crash. Whenever I see something this horrible I offer a prayer for the innocent and that the most horribly injured/dead are those responsible.

Dude, there comes a time when you have to start believing in the laws of natural selection, for the sake of the innocent.

This may be a bit dramatic but, if a suicide bomber was the only one that died, we would say that's a good thing. He was theoretically no different, he was innocent in intention, but does that matter if the outcome was the same?

Hear! Hear! I am always grateful when an asshat takes himself out without taking anyone else with him.

It's horrible for the people involved, also the parents of the 25 year old ; who says he just didn't grab the keys without permission. All options are open untill we know for sure.

But what I find daunting is that the A-pillar is flattened and it looks like it was a coupe. I already admired that they made the rollover protection from the cabrio also in the coupe,
but the way that car looks : I would be decapitated... Suddenly feel a lot less eager to try topspeed and stuff, even on the empty highways we do find in Germany on occasion..

I find the "string 'em up"/"serves 'em right" sentiments expressed by some in this thread somewhat disturbing. Heaven forbid that these individuals have ever done anything foolish and dangerous, putting themselves and others in danger (no I'm not referring to the exact circumstances of this particular incident). God knows I have.
The difference is, I escaped unharmed and so was afforded the opportunity to learn from the experience(s).

I also find it harder to condemn a young person. Now if it had been someone more advanced in age I'd much more readily just call him/her an idiot who should've known better.

I'd expect even a 25 year old to know better than to drive recklessly fast on the wrong side of the road down a city street. Sadly, my expectations are often not met.

Yeah 25 is not as young in UK as it is in North America.
Regardless, we have glamorized street racing among the hormonally challenged with things like Fast&Furious, which alarmingly lost its star to street racing and the delusion they had full control of the car.
When did we curb smoking, when we finally convinced the young it was stupid and unglamorous .

As they say on reddit: "username checks out".

So technically just a terrorized totally captive hostage.

I am not sure on what logical grounds we should feel sorry for the guy who broke so many laws, so many bad judgements and lost control, did a lot of damage. Strange.

Mmm, I'd better rethink my usual passenger instruction to "shut your eyes and scream if you want me to go faster ..."

That reminds me of something I read (I hope I don't butcher it) "I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers"

I don't wish ill on the reckless and stupid but don't have much sympathy for them either; however, the collateral damage is lamentable.

It's sad when things like this happen, regardless if the drivers were being idiots. We all have been idiots in cars before at one time or another.

As far as the damage to the cars, safety crash tests and standards are only up to certain speeds. Once you get beyond those speeds, anything can happen unless you turn it into a race car with a full cage, containment seat, etc. To be honest, I'm surprised the F-Type looks like it does from the speeds the driver was likely going and the objects it likely impacted at those speeds.
