Adding a second proximity key/fob
I recently purchased a used Jaguar: 2016 F-Type S AWD. Unbeknownst to me prior to purchasing the car there was only one key. I would have purchased anyway however, the inconvenience and cost of getting a second key alone has demonstrated to me that Jaguar has invested more in making a beautiful vehicle and less in the infrastructure to support that vehicle. In order to get a new key, I first went to a dealership that wanted ~$750.00 USD to provide me with one key (which I would approximate to be about 5x avg.) but they did not even have it in stock either and guess what, the blank would have to be ordered separately as well and arrive from the UK.
In an attempt to expedite the matter (I am at risk with only one key because cost of losing last one even more expensive), I ordered some keys off ebay (yea, I know). When I received them, I went to another dealership whereupon programming was told that one was completely dead in water and the other the buttons worked but would not crank the car. So then, here I am again at another dealership where I pay $500+ to order one key (without blank), and still have to wait for it to come in. A week after ordering, the dealership has informed me it still hasn't arrived.
The FOB's real cost to the Jaguar infrastructure is minimal, regardless of the gouging they do to the consumer, they should have them in stock and readily available if they are going to charge an exorbitant fee for 'luxury'.
Even purchasing this vehicle at 40% original price, I find Jaguar's infrastructure poor value - I'd be livid if I had purchased at retail.

Update: 10 days later, still no proximity key and not even an ETA, says it has to come from the UK. What the hell is wrong with Jaguar?! Of all the things that can go wrong, the most basic purchase I want to make it as complicated as this? A freaking key...
I had the same issue when I bought my 2017 F Type S. It only had one key fob. I found a new oem jaguar key fob online for about $70.00. It came from www.carandtruckremotes.com and they are located near you in Alpharetta. I brought it to my local dealer and they programmed it for me. I saved about $200.00.
The Jag remotes are fussy and I always see a second/spare set as essential. Changed the 2032 batteries in both of mine last week and for a few minutes neither would work at all. Gave them 15 minutes and they both started working.
I know there is the manual key workaround, but I can't imagine not having a spare key fob for any vehicle. Good luck with Jag. More reason to always be prepared as best we can for lack of supply ... of just about everything.

I asked for a second FOB before my contract was signed for a 2016 F-Type. The IOU document showed a cost of $650. Thankfully I thought of asking for it prior to taking delivery Besides being extremely expensive, it took the dealer 5 weeks to get it then I had to drive back to the dealer to get it programmed.
Depending on location, I don't think they have been completely shut down. I bought an F Pace in Charlotte, NC first week of May, and had on O2 sensor replaced on my F Type in Jacksonville a few weeks ago.

Don't make the mistake I did....
At purchase, I made sure we had TWO fobs and that both worked.
It wasn't until later that we discovered that the key was missing from inside one. That cost us about $100 to get it from a dealer (it is VIN specific).
