Default Aftermarket Head Unit in 2014 F-Type

I'm considering purchasing a 2014 F-Type base model. I prefer using Android Auto for my navigation, audio and voice-based control. Based on what I've read thus far, the stock head unit doesn't support Android Auto...

So, I'm looking to put a Pioneer AVIC-7201NEX in it.

Has anyone replaced their stock head unit with a double din aftermarket unit? If so, did you do it yourself or use the dealer or a specialty shop?

The head unit has a lot of controls for the car as well. I wouldn't want to lose that functionality.

Though I agree it's a shame we don't have android auto.

I wouldn't say our head unit is a double DIN, it's way more embedded with the vehicle systems, so I seriously doubt your chances...I had an AVIC unit in my previous Audi S4 and I do miss CarPlay but I'm getting over it.

The head unit controls all the vehicle functionality from A/C to interior lighting. It is not just an audio system interface...

Thanks for the response. I was afraid that might be the case. Too bad. But, it won't discourage me from buying the vehicle.

The system also controls the various suspension settings and engine management settings like putting the engine and transmission in dynamic and normal mode. I doubt an aftermarket system would also be able to do all of that.

That seems to be the case. It's too bad it doesn't support Android Auto, but, I'll still buy one.

I think this norm going forward, not being able to replace head unit. There are expensive ways to uprade sound out of the head unit.

Hi
I would not mess with the head unit at all. You can get "awesome" sound out of the unit that is in the car (is it the higher or lower wattage unit?).

1. - Software upgrade improves the sound greatly.
2. - Other ways with interchangeable speakers that finish it off, making my higher wattage stereo "off the charts" perfectly sounding without question.

Above with zero headhunt changes, albeit on the higher wattage Meridian.

I've found most of my complaints about the 380W system are due to poor sources - FM/HD radio (which is what I listen to most of the time) is mediocre, SiriusXM is downright poor. But CDs ripped to the internal changer, or MP3s streamed from my phone, are decent.

Doesn't help with your desired Android Auto, of course.
