Default Am I shifting correctly?

Some of the most fun I have in my Ftype is shifting gears up via the paddles on an automatic car.

I get these sweet burps when I'm pushing down hard on the gas, the RPM's are in the 3-4K+ range and then I shift up. All while I'm pushing down on the gas. You get this sweet satisfying sound.

I've noticed however that whenever I do this, I'm able to smell something burning. I think its my clutch though I'm not totally sure.

What do you guys think? Am I shifting correctly? I don't want to burn the clutch prematurely, but is there any other harm I'm causing by shifting this way?

Is there anybody else who does something like this regularly?

+1. Torque converters are designed to handle that type of shifting. Smell might be un-burnt fuel.

ha! I didn't know that.

It could be fuel. Sure smells like it. Do any of you guys know what I'm talking about and/or have smelt something similar while shifting like this?

How long have you had the car, and how many miles are on it? I distinctly remember the smell of the brand new exhaust and cats when I drove mine hard the until it was really broken in.

7 months. 5K miles on it. Been driven hard most of those I'd say.

See this post on another forum: XFRS to F-Type R Coupe full exhaust conversion.
It appears that the F-Type engineers deliberately designed a "controlled misfire" into the car to give the exhaust it's distinctive crackle and pop, and I suspect you are smelling unburnt fuel from this.

Just got back from a long drive and yes you're right. Its unburnt fuel. Thanks for helping me point out that smell.

Now that question is, is this normal? Or is something wrong with my car since I'm smelling it quite a bit after drives these days.

Temperatures are cooler this time of year and the smell does not dissipate as quickly as in warmer weather.

You most likely have nothing to worry about, except poor fuel economy.

Are you UP shifting (with the + right paddle) or are you DOWN shifting (with the - left paddle) when you notice the nice sound and the fuel smell? DOWNshifting (- on the left paddle) causes the engine RPM to go UP at a given MPH.

usually happens on upshifts.

Also this last road trip, there were times when I wan't shifting manually at all. Car was in auto and the smell would just come through the cabin.

Its ok by me, but my passengers usually think someone has farted. (not a very premium feeling

Windows open or closed? You may have an exhaust leak.

I would just mention the problem to them and explain the circumstances when it occurs. I don't care if car is spitting skunks from the tailpipes, you should never smell anything inside a sealed cabin (particularly at speed). Fuel leaks and exhaust leaks will, however, enter the cabin.

Can a fart (sulphur) smell come from the cats?

So I still get this fumes smell in my car from time to time and today I saw the post for the K410 campaign which sounds like it could be a solution for these fumes that I'm smelling.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...e-done-172240/

I've scheduled an appointment for next week to apply K410 to my car. Will let you guys know if that fixes this issue for me.

Had my 2014 V8S since new - now has 18k miles on it. Have never smelt a burning smell of any description whatsoever and I always drive in dynamic. Does not sound normal to me.

I think this is very rare which is why I was so surprised to hear of this campaign that sounds promising for the 1% of people like me who are affected by this smell.
