Talking annoying rattle: SOLVED

Hi all, i wanted to share this as i have finally fixed a developing rattle that started a few months back and seemed to be getting worse. This is my second ftype and strangely the first had the same rattle and I complained about it 4 or 5 times to the dealer - I even had the entire dash removed and replaced and it still didn't fix it...

I hate rattles and when this one started my heart sank a little as it was never resolved in my last car. Anyway, the rattle (in case you have something similar) sounded like it was coming from inside the dashboard - it was really hard to identify whether it was coming from the left hand side or the right side of the dash and sounded like plastic rubbing against something.

After months of trying to insulate things inside and under the dash (trying to eliminate it) i discovered the problem when i was washing my car over the weekend. I was washing the top part of the bonnet closest to the windscreen and when i pushed down slightly i heard the exact noise I could hear in the car when driving... I pushed down on the left side of the bonnet as well and again (more pronounced) i heard the noise again. I opened the hood and these clips (attached) were really loose, just flopping about is the best way to describe it. It looks like they were loose from factory as the paint had sealed the bolts to the hood. Long story short, i tightened them (spanner on the bolt) and checked alignment of the hood and the annoying rattle has completely gone.

Anyway, i hope this helps if anyone else has a rattle that is hard to identify. - see pic of what i tightened attached.

Well done that man!
It seems as though some muppet on the production line at Castle Bromwich forgot to tighten those nuts.
I feel your pain as I too have found by experience that rattles, creaks and groans (I hate 'em all with a passion) are hardly ever caused by something amiss where you think the noise is coming from and it's nearly always something miles away that you would never guess in a million years.

I found that nut loose on mine shortly after delivery as well. It’s actually an adjustment nut and the loop needs to be adjusted just right to ensure that the mating latch holds the loop down tightly when the bonnet is closed

Funny, I actually noticed mine had some play in them this morning, but the nuts seemed tight. I was thinking maybe they were designed to have a little movement, but if not, I will tighten mine as well.

the nut was actually tight but the u bolt had so much play/movement in it - had to turn it quite a few times to tighten the bolt - no play at all now and hood is even.
feels like a different car now the rattle is gone

Just went outside and tightened the passenger side on my 2017 SVR. Driver side was fine. I didn't have the noise you reported, but I'm sure it helps.
