I love love loved the shifter in my 135i. Best manual I've ever driven.

Another sort of non-definitive review on the F-Type manual transmission, but it seems they like it.

http://autoweek.com/article/car-reviews/2016-jaguar-f-type?utm_source=DailyDrive20150521&utm_medium=enew sletter&utm_term=headline-top&utm_content=body&utm_campaign=awdailydrive

“The ratios in the manual are close, but not too close. At a moderate pace, a reasonably competent driver can routinely manage shifts that will seem to a passenger or pedestrian as smooth and seamless as those from a torque-converter automatic. Gear-change throws are not the shortest, but they’re not long. The action is accurate, easy and nicely weighted, and the clutch goes from open to shut in a short span of pedal. It’s easy to master in short order.
A foot box originally shaped for two pedals gets a little more crowded with three, but we had no problems at all with the space. And the while the F-Type V6 S is plenty quick -- low 5s to 60 mph -- it’s not going to be as quick as the automatic, in either lap or acceleration times. No driver is going to make up for the lack of launch control or fewer ratios, no matter how close those ratios are.

Perfect, no, but the F-Type V6 S manual gets our vote as the car. We say that not because we’re happy it exists, but because it’s the car we’d most enjoy driving on a daily basis, even with the occasional track day. Any reluctance to make that call -- that the V6 S manual is the F-Type -- has nothing to do with the effort or tedium of working a clutch during a morning commute, or when you’re queued up leaving a ball game or a show. It has nothing to do with forgoing the prestige associated with the V8’s R badge. The reluctance is simply that we’d enjoy the R’s 170 extra horsepower.

If you feel the same way, there’s no point waiting around for a V8 manual. It’s not coming”.

A bit of disappointing news (for me , anyway). Production week has been moved back 2 weeks to week ending 6/5. Delivery has been moved back 1 week to 7/17. No VIN has been issued yet. Bummer, dude!

Looks like my car will be on the assembly line at the same time as TwiztOG43's.

Orkney, any updates on your end?

Default No VIN Yet...

So I also do not yet have a VIN, but at least for the moment my production and delivery dates are holding fast. Of course anything can change between now and then, including the sinking of the transport ship....

I note that all of these reviewers are giving their perspectives on the exact same physical car....

Hadn't noticed that. Good point. One should also note that, since initial production just started over the past 2 weeks, all of the cars reviewed were pre-production units(unless some have already come off the line for other markets, but I haven't heard of any)

Just been out for a fun drive in mine, and I could not agree more

What surprized me a litte was the true MPG figures. The R got better MPG than the S - and better than what Jaguar claims? That is the only thing in the review that I find a bit strange, even though I have seen good MPG myself when just cruising...

Yes, I noticed that in the article as well. The R does run at lower rpms at highway speeds, but I'd not have expected that would result in lower real world mpg. Part of me wondered if he had swapped the two figures, but the low end mpg makes me doubt that. I think he got it in the right place, but I am still not discounting a typo.

I can confirm that in my own limited tests, I see a 22 mpg average running around with a mix of highway and street driving of roughly 70/30. But then again on shorter trips I run below 20 mpg more often since I tend to be having more fun.

I like that he switched out the pzero's for the pilot super sports. I'll be planning to do that around 15k miles as well. Maybe move up to 265's up front and 305's in the rear at the same time.

The 305s haven't been available for months. I had to settle for the 295s. I believe the 265s are too wide for the 9" front wheels without punching them.

I'm hoping that by the time I need them the 305's will be available.

As for the 265's, according to the PSS specifications, they support 9" wheels as their minimum spec, so in theory they should fit without stretching or pinching. I guess I'll need to validate that, since that was my go-to plan. If they don't fit properly, I'll stick with the 255's up front. But that will mean also sticking with the 295's out back to avoid the size differential issue.
