Any rumors of F-Type taking on Porsche 911 more directly by adding a back seat?

Default Any rumors of F-Type taking on Porsche 911 more directly by adding a back seat?

After hearing that the F-Type will be getting a manual I started looking closely at the F-Type and really fell for it, but I have two small children that I need to transport and I want the F-Type to be my daily driver.

Has there been any talk of Jaguar adding a back seat version?

Are there any $100K or less alternatives to the F-Type that have back seats?
The only one I can think of that comes somewhat close is the 911, but it just doesn't have the looks or excitement of the Jag.

Default 4 seat performance coupe - just say no

Just my 2 cents, but having just exited your phase (the last child gets her driver's license in 2 months), my advice is don't try. When my kids were small enough to talk myself into it I bought a 2 door coupe that had "pretend rear seating". Getting the kid seats in and out, no legroom, etc was a disaster, and was traded in for a genuine 4 door 18 months later. There's some great driving performance sedans out there, and gives you something to look forward to when the kids get out on their own - assuming you're not driving a beater at that point to save for college.

Other's experience?

Ditto . . . tried it for awhile, and it was painful, both physically and with an unhappy wife/mother.

Where would you put those 2 seats? Just enough room for a soft top and a donut tire in back on the conv, & only enough room for 2 sets of clubs laying flat in the coupe. They could come up with a square back F-Type, but then they'd be going down the same road as the spin-off abominations that MINI has created.

That said, as a kid, I had no problem laying curled up in the back of a Series 1 E-Type (back when it was still legal to have fun). The excitement of the ride more than made up for the discomfort. You could try that with your kids.

Jaguar has said they will eventually do a 2+2 to replace the XK. But with their focus on getting the XE out I'm guessing probably not for another couple of years until you see a proper GT from Jag again. I do know a few people who the rear seats are a must. It does come in handy for some occasions even if u don't have kids. I took my mom and sister in the back seat on a short trip to dinner in my 991. But they're about 5'1" so was easy.

I would suggest an XK. Looks great, about to go out so you may be able to get quite a deal, and if you opt for an XKR, get the 5.0, though with a little less power.

The problem with the XK...no manual which I think Mitochon was looking for.

An even bigger problem with the XK is that MY2015 was the end of the line, and I believe production has already ceased. There may be a few left on dealer lots, but I haven't seen one at local area dealers in quite some time.

Get an XFR or an XFR-S....you will enjoy every minute of it and you will be astounded how many things it does well. I have a F-Type R, but I had a 2010 XFR, and I miss it. There I said it....

Jaguar needs to do an XJS coupe. The name is there, the XJ is a perfect start for them to shorten it and make a hot coupe out of it....

After that, they can take there time with the appropriate XK successor....

Are you listening Jaguar....

Little ones will outgrow the little back seats faster than you think.

Mine are in their 40s. (Big smile)

Default Maserati gt

Maserati gt, but no manual. It's not as sporty as the f type, but it is the only 2+2 with real seats in the back. It also has a gorgeous exterior and the exhaust sounds like that of a quarter million car. It turns heads.
I think you can get one for around a hundred considering the trouble they have selling them. I heard the dealer in NYC still has brand new 2013 models!

Other than price, there are a number of other reasons why they are having a hard time selling them.
