Exactly!

If you think about the lines, you will see the lines. If you think about driving - and the driving experience of the F-Type - [all] you'll think about is how very lucky you are.

My strongest advice is stop thinking and start driving. Thinking is over-rated anyway.

Just don't listen for newscasters taking a breath. The news will be completely spoilt if you do...

No glare from those wires in bright sunshine or oncoming night traffic? (Still pondering the option).

I wear glasses. I'm used to the effect of rain on them, so don't notice unless I look for it.

Unless you have lots of mornings where the screen is covered in ice, it isn't worth having.

Good afternoon Lance!

Every now and then I notice the lines but, as I say above, if you think about the lines...you will notice the lines. If you think about driving, you won't see anything but the [inner] look on your face [soul] how damn lucky you are.

I vote "get it".

If I were up in your area, there would be no question. Down in DC windshield icing only occurs overnite ( not too often) and since the car will always be garaged overnite, the answer is far less obvious. I still have a month or two to contemplate, so I'll just continue monitoring this thread for semi-devine guidance.

Good points and, I guess, a toss-up. (You can always take the professional commodity brokers approach - analysis - and flip a coin!).

It certainly could be useful in our climate, but only if the car ever remains parked outside during the winter months, whether at home or work. When driving, the HVAC in the car eliminates any need for it.

Mine's garaged at home and work, so my windshield has never been frosted over, and likely never will be during my ownership.

De-icer and a plastic scraper are much, much cheaper. But, some owners may not be able to reach all areas of the windscreen due to problems related to age or perceived social status.

I opted out. In Atlanta there is no need for it. I am surprised OP has it on his Florida car. I've noticed Florida dealer stock cars with this feature which seems really stupid IMO.

I have the heated windscreen and rarely notice the lines. I would rather have the feature than not. Nice to avoid defroster fan noise and heat on mild damp days; fogging may be cleared instantly and silently with the heated screen.

This vehicle was purchased used, originally titled in Indiana.

Based on the cross-chatter on this thread, I went down to the dealer to see for myself before my order gets locked down. I had to look at the windshield (and up close) specifically to find the heating elements before I saw them. There's no chance that I will see them unless I focus on the windshield. However, I can easily imagine that others with perfect close up reading vision might be distracted by those lines under the right light conditions. It's no problem for me.

Can you replace a heated windshield with a normal one? I really hope so. I live in FL and have no use for a heated windshield.

thanks

Why would you even contemplate doing that? The heating element wires are virtually invisible, and super-useful for interior fogging. Replacing a windshield in the F-Type is a costly process, especially if you go for OEM glass - to solve a problem that does not exist.🤔

You can, but why would you even contemplate doing that? The heating element wires are virtually invisible, and are super-useful to clear interior fogging even if ice is not an issue where you live. Replacing a windshield in the F-Type is a costly process, especially if you go for OEM glass - all to solve a problem that does not exist. Unless you focus visually on the wires (which means that your focus is not on the child about to step off the curb in front of you) you won't see them.

Those wires can become visible if the sun hits them at the exact right angle. Over the past 6 years it has happened to me only 2 or 3 times, so it hasn’t been a serious problem. On the other hand, I haven’t needed to use the defroster during that time either. Automatic climate control seems to take care of that without any special assistance.

I have this feature on my car and I live in AZ-which really doesn't make any sense. The car was purchased in Chicago so that was much more logical. Since the car is now in AZ I am unsure if I will keep it moving forward or not. It is so typical to get at least one windshield replaced a year in this state. I am thankful the rocks tend to whack the windshield more than the car but here you need glass coverage period.

You should indeed consider replacing the windshield next time without the heating elements, unless the insurance company is paying for it. Once they replace the windshield with a cheaper version, they’ll never pay for you to go back to a heated windshield for a future replacement.

Figured I'd hop on as this one isn't too old - but I wish I'd known about it before I bought mine. I HATE the lines, and they seem to scatter every light at night, making the grid super obvious.

A new discovery happened today when I didn't have time to pop in my contact (yes, I only wear one - only one eye needs nearsightedness correction), and driving around on a bright sunny day, my depth perception was off-kilter and the gridlines were clear as day. My bad eye automatically focuses on the grid as it's nearsighted, even when I'm looking at and focused on something far in the distance. It was unbearable...won't make that mistake again, for sure.

Hoping for a large pebble impact soon so I have an excuse to replace it.
