100%. While buying used is great - assuming you find what it is you're looking for - I fell in deep lust with my new 2015 V6S with far more options than I sought (but glad I have) and went into it with eyes wide open and the understanding that I was going to take a big hit. Price of admission or, as Unhingd would say, "price to play".

Speaking of Unhingd...vvv

The electronics on these cars will never last 20-30 years and the cost to repair will not be worth the price.

Agreed - a good example is the infotainment system which runs on a spinning hard disk - when that disk fails it will be interesting getting the system up and running again. Getting hold of spinning disks in 20 years is going to be a challenge unto itself, probably have to retrofit a different technology platform.

Ok, so if you were planning on keeping your car 30 yrs and hoping it's a "collector" one day, it would be wise to purchase a spare infotainment system and keep it safe. Any other parts worth picking up to keep for a while?

I agree with that - I think that the F-Type will follow in the footsteps of the E-Type;
The coupés of both model looks the sexier, and the earlier cars command the higher prices as the model becomes 'tarted up' with unnecessary styling mods and plastic (Sport 400's etc).
The 'off-road' 4x4's are common place now as everyone seems scared, and the 4 pot will be the laughing stock...then comes the F-EV-Type!

If you think of it this way, a lot of those 47-60 year old cars that you see getting the big bucks at auction are frame off resto jobs. Can you imagine doing it to the F type.

Unless we have the bar really low or are in it for the "too old to have sex or want it" run. I just watched a loaded 14 V8s with my exact specs sit on eBay forever @ 60k. It had 13k on it. Pretty sure sticker was 104k. It's a year older than mine, but c'mon! Painful.
Was it that 2014 Firesand out of austin TX?

Mmm, could be a bit tricky on a frameless aluminium car that in theory, shouldn't rust.

I know what you mean. I would like to see a R vert sit out in a field in Ohio for 30 or 40 years and see what would need to be repaired.

Try leaving it on the street in NYC and see what you're left with after just a week. LOL.

Sounds like it's time to add a 14V8 vert to the coupe.

Edit: Nevermind, I see that 2016 R (RWD) is outside of the US.

2016 3.0L S coupe just sold for $51K, IMO that's pretty good coin for a five year old unit.
