Default Auto fold mirrors

So I know I've read on threads before about people having the dealer disable the auto fold mirrors. I just had my first service today and told them I wanted to disable the auto fold "feature." After picking up my car I was told that they will no longer fold regardless. This doesn't seem right and I can't see why such a late model car can't have mirrors that only fold when I choose to close them. I just wanted to disable them folding every time I lock the car.

For those of you who have disabled auto fold do they still fold when you press the two mirrors buttons simultaneously? Thank you!

My dealer told me they had no way to disable my auto fold mirrors period.

Well there definitely is a way to disable them as mine now are but if I have to choose between always folding when I lock the car or never being able to close them I guess I'd prefer to go back to stock settings.

I think its a dumb feature. The mirrors are hardly wider than the vehicle itself. Its not like this vehicle can't fit in a garage like a big wide truck. I've literally never had a single reason to fold them in. All they've done is added complexity and weight to a vehicle that has enough already. Plus it looks stupid when they're folded in.

I'll take any feature that keeps the giant purse cougars from knocking my mirrors to $hit as they stare at their phones.

With the ignition on, press both mirror adjust buttons at the same time.
If you have power fold mirrors they will fold, if not then you don't have power fold mirrors.

The folding mirror feature certainly comes from the narrow streets in England and Europe. I've certainly had a few mirror to mirror love taps when I drove in England.

While not directly related - or were they even around then - to the folding mirrors, I think this suggests another possible meaning. I actually like the idea that the folding mirrors are the first signs of my car coming to life:

Yep on street parking on narrow roads in the UK = lots of broken mirrors as cars pass by the parked cars very close. Folding mirrors are almost a necessity there.

Not so much a problem in most US cities where people generally park in large parking lots or wide roads.

It is a problem in my garage, though. Folding mirrors on both cars assure my wife's easy passage out of her car and out of the garage; she has the car on the right.

Default Folding Mirrors

We always fold our mirror when entering the garage. It reduces the possibility of clipping them on the way out. My wife's BMW mirrors however automatically unfold at 25mph so you don't have to manually unfold them. Mine don't so it's another thing to do in addition to turning off ECO and turning on noise and closing garage door. But the BMW won't fold them on locking.

Personally like them folded when the car is locked. It helps when people walk between cars and are careless.....a week ago my Landcruiser mirror was folded the other way, probably from some *** hitting it as he walked by!

On the BMW try pressing and holding the lock button on your key, it should fold them in, if not ask dealer to activate the feature.

My 15 year old 330 coupe has the option to automatically fold the mirrors on hitting the lock button of the remote, or not. A single button on the armrest...

But back to the F: it's **** is as wide as the mirrors, so why bother if you're not on-street parking??? I didn't, but if I'm really concerned, it's possible to manually fold them in...

He must have had really long legs to hit the mirror on a Landcruiser...

Don't they always get the spot on the right?
