Ah, you're talking about the trunk lock on an XK! That does have a keyhole behind the licence plate and I think I recall my 2010 XKR had a removable cover on the door handle to reveal the emergency key access. Your handbook should give details.

They keyhole on an XK is on the back part of the handle. You have to pop off the cover.

I own an XK and it surely has a key hole under a cover on the handle...it even has an image of a key on it.

About key locked in XJ8L trunk If you look in the back seat, there is a pull-down seat-arm. But it is also a pathway for long snow skis. That means, it is a path to the inside of the trunk! Unless your as thin as a snake or have 6 feet arms, you can reach if you get a push button 'grabber" and a flashlight, with considerable pain and agony you should be able to fetch that key. Good Luck. Let is know if it worked.

Forgot to add about the key-in-trunck thing.... You can always remove the back seat and get in thet way. Lots of time and misery, but still better than drilling holes.

We've gone down a rabbit hole here.
There is no key access to the trunk on an F-Type; the XK does indeed have a key access on the driver's door handle under a cover with a key symbol embossed on it. I cannot imagine an owner not knowing that crucial bit of information. And the F-Type also has key access for the driver's door but the door handle must be pulled out to reveal it.
The XK for Canada and the US has a very much exposed key access point for the trunk, not behind the license plate, since our plates are much smaller that the European/UK plates, and finally, there is no rear seat in the F-Type and therefore no practical access from the cabin, even in the coupe version.
I need a glass of wine.

Our cars are too electronic.
There's too much climate and stereo controls on the touch screen.
My touch screen died on my 2012 XF.
Now i can't set the function and fans.
The trunk is kind of a p.i.t.a. Yes, the little keyfob key pops in that hidden hole,
and it opens the trunk. Still, it's to arduous & fancy for me. Give me regular keys and key holes.
i disconnect my battery because i go away on long trips.
I reconnect it, and my door locks don't work.

CAUTION using your cup holders.
Spilling even a few drops of liquid on the push-button starter/gearbox control/emergency brake module
may result in a gearbox fault. The result may not be immediate, but
you REALLY don't want to get a gearbox fault.
You may forfeit significant hard earned wealth.
Clean with damp rag treated w/ super evaporative/ electronic cleaner fluid only.

I think I figured it out. This has become a recommended topic or something that shows at the bottom of other threads in different forums. That's why we are getting all the input from XF, XK and other type owners. People coming in that way don't see the issue we are talking about here is with an F-Type convertible.

Really, Really, Really appreciate everyone's help and ideas.

Special Thanks to DJS and Lizzardo. The info you folks provided saved my bacon.

Love the forum - love the help.

Lessons learnt: Be patient - don't rush. I'm glad I waited till I had feedback from several members before I went applying 12V to random wires on the car. Also, never close the F-Type trunk........ever !!!! If you see a guy driving around a white F-type with the trunk open - it's me.

The JAG is purring again !
hello mate im sorry but i have a same problem with the trunk, i tried applying 12v to pin 6 but nothing happened, can you make me a clear picture of how to connect 12v to those pin pls? Thank you!

Wow what a life saver. I was replacing auxiliary battery and had everything disconnected when trunk was accidently shut and was at my wits end when I found this thread. Thanks for the question and especially to those with the solution. The wiring diagram and the cheat sheet that showed location of the switch were the key(literally) to the puzzle. I'm so relieved and stoked I was walking around with my arms raised like I just scored a touchdown.

Dunno about the group# but the aux battery is an Exide EK151 with a JLR sticker whacked on it.
Last I checked not available in the good ol' US of A other than by paying a JLR dealership and getting bent over big time but why would you ever do that, just rip the aux battery out altogether and hey presto no more annoying SS system.

If anyone is looking for the start/stop battery. It's Exide EK151 as OzXFR posted above.
Not real common in the US and I got mine off EBay and I do see at least 6 listings that are active right now.
Exide EK151

I got mine from the guy in Lativa. No problems with shipping to the US either. Not sure I would get the reconditioned ones.

The F is my wife's car...

When I told her "The auxiliary battery is dying" she said "You had BETTER replace it!"

I told her "Well, I can just remove it. Less weight, better acceleration, better MPG".

She gave me the stink-eye.

@a8silver how did you access the wires? Can't lift the black protective cover in this Topic.

Easy solution, jump the battery terminals under the hood. Will provide enough power to release the trunk.
