Default Battery Unhooked, trunk closed...amateur hr.

Messed up.... unhooked the battery from the busbar in the trunk searching for another issue (no start)... Found a bad mega fuse, great... Until I let the truck lid close (1st Latch, not 100% closed). Any ideas on getting back into the trunk? I can't do the typical hook up with jump point and let the battery charge for two reasons.. First bein the battery is not hooked to the main (+) busbar in the trunk, and ever worse the front jump point is also not hooked to that same busbar because the fuse is blown. I don't know of any other way to supply power to that busbar I can access from the outside? But I can't be the only person who has done this...

Interesting dilemma. Since you have access under the hood, seems like you could hook a 12 v charger using a splice of wire to the hot side of the fusebox. May get you juice to electronically open the trunk? Just thinking out loud here.....

Crowbar?
Seriously though, have you tried raising the trunk lid manually?
You never know the first latch/catch might release or maybe you can poke a screwdriver in there to release it, and pull the lid up by hand.
I know I can raise or lower the hatch on my coupe manually even though it has the power operation option.

I forget....you have a vert or a coupe? Any way of snagging the emergency release with a long hook from inside the cabin?

Lance, he has a vert, shown in the first post.
Which I guess means either no emergency release or long hook no go or both!

Good idea, going to try this later today with some of the other main (+) leads to the front fuse boxes. Could work in theory!

So this is on my list of options also, I do have an emergency release on the rear face of the trunk next to the Latch area but I will be completely blind tryin to hook on to it. Still better then a crowbar.

In the left side A-Pillar fuse box, F15 is the fuse for the tailgate. Pulling that fuse and connecting the positive side of a power source directly to the fuse receptacle should power the trunk switch & latch.

Why did your fusible link fail?

It may provide power to the tailgate, but the button would probably disabled, like the car was locked. Just a guess.

Dave,
can you identify a separate fuse for the trunk latch ? I couldn’t find one in the shop manual.

Nice work. Might be worth posting details in the ‘known issues’ thread, if you have a chance.

Up to you, but I think a post in the known issues sticky would make it easier to find, maybe with a link to this thread. Or the other way around.

I think new thread with easy to search title would be ideal. Also, for electrical hookups take extra detailed pictures so folks following your SOP don't end up frying electronics.

Sorry to revive this old thread; went to the known issues sticky, could not find a write-up. I need to power the trunk release and I was hoping to get some more details or pictures on what exactly needs to be powered and where a good ground would be. I see that this is a fuse panel, appears to be driver side (USA). In this pic is the red lead (not jumper) connected for ground?

If everything is still hooked up in the trunk (power bus bars). Just pop the hood and use jumper cables on the front terminal hookup to power up the ecm allowing you to pop the trunk. Pick any raw metal point to ground to. Let me know if you need further instructions. Good luck.

It’s the same as jumping the car - look in your manual for that.
