Default Black Amethyst Metallic

Has anyone seen any at your local dealerships? Not a convertible...coupe only..it's my first color choice but i'm not finding them. Am I the only person that loves this color?

RR,

I've never seen that color, but will be on the look-out.

Out of the 450 or so new coupes listed nationwide on CARS.COM, there are 6 that are amethyst - 3 R, 2 S and one base, so it would appear to be a fairly rare color.

I saw one at the dealer in Vienna, VA. In my opinion it suffers the same shortcoming as the Saphire and the BRG. From a distance it looks black or dark grey unless it is sitting in direct sunlight. The color pops when well lighted and looks real classy.

It's something like a purplish black metallic. It looks classy but subtle. It's slated to be replaced in 2016 by Blackberry.

Audi has this colour for some of its RS models. They call it Panther Black - very unusual. You'd need to be brave!

A VW Corrado I used to own had Moonlight Blue pearlescent paint. It had to be clean and in direct sunlight to appear anything other than black. But it was worth it.

I just searched for coupes, but put the word 'amethyst' in the box for 'additional keywords'.

Its difficult to tell what's 'popular' - in-stock cars are generally going to be what the dealer ordered, which may not be what customer would have ordered if he wasn't settling for whats on the lot. For example - there aren't really many BRGs with the camel leather & camel carpet interior, which I would have thought would be the defacto 'enthusiast' interior for BRG cars (or IRR or Sapphire for that matter). I hope that when JLR consider their available option offerings (which appear to be reduced for MY2016) that they pay at least some attention to custom ordered cars when analysing the statistics. A simplistic evaluation of statistics may well indicate that 'white cars with jet interiors' are the most popular (and sell best), but that may just reflect what the dealers have made most available on their lots...

Here is a You Tube video that shows the color in bright sunlight. View of the car exterior starts about midway through the video. It does look purple close up and in certain light.

It is more like a purple color from some angles.

Here in the DC area, well over 95% of the cars are greyscale from white to black and 18 shades in between (a primary reason I don't want another silver car). Just look at the number of greyscales offered by Jag compared with colorized cars (even some of those look black at low light levels). Green is requested so seldom that most marques don't even offer it anymore.

I work at Galpin Jaguar out in LA and order all the Jags for our store. I'd never seen Black Amethyst in person....so I ordered one! We have a Black Amethyst R Coupe in stock now with Jet/Ivory seats and full Ivory leather headliner.

It's a color that has to be seen in person and in the sunlight to be really appreciated. It's not for everyone, but I think that's why I like it. Definitely my favorite F-Type color. Bummed it's being replaced....

You could also send her a PM with your contact info.

I'll have to stop by for a visit. I wonder how close it is to the Panther Black that Audi puts out. That definitely had a strong purple tint in bright sunlight. Black in anything else.
