Default Blackstone Oil Analysis

The 4 year warranty on my V8S is up in January 2018 (amazing how time flies...). Am currently on 22k miles. I wanted to get the oil tested so any potential issues could be picked up by warranty while it was still in force.

Ordered the Blackstone kit... then remembered there is no dipstick. Guess there's no other way to get an oil sample than draining from the pan??

1) Can also draw some oil via the screw-off oil filter at the top of the motor (under the plastic engine cover).

2) Or, you can unscrew the oil fill screw cap and if you have a pump, syphon up a little oil.

option 2 may be easiest.

A number of folks here do oil analysis; I expect they'll chime in shortly on how they get it - probably a vacuum extractor.

Yep, if you don't have a pump/syphon then option 1 will work, once you take the oil filter canister off there is a decent pool of oil in a "ring" around the centre of the hole, just extract some from here with a syringe.

anyway, I think that you would be unlikely to get the warranty firm to cough up over the results of an oil analysis as they would probably say that the engine is functioning without any issues and you need to be taking regular samples so that you can establish a trend. One bad result is pretty meaningless

The other thing is whether Blackstone have a clean sample of the OEM oil to baseline against. When I had my XFR oil tested they didn't at the time...

They do sell a little syphon kit which I used on the dipstick tube. Can't remember how much it was...

There is the small siphon tube located in the center of the oil fill hole that you can attach a siphon canister to. That tube goes down to within millimeters of the bottom of the oil pan. Here is a Blackstone analysis of the virgin OEM oil:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...2/#post1346290

Here's the complete history for the first 20k miles of my car:

Nice to know that a heavy right foot agrees with Jaguar F types :-)
