I considered blackvue but ultimately went with Street Guardian SG9665GC due to superior image quality, especially at night. Downside is no wifi downloads...have to pull the SD card to transfer...and the GPS is a plug-in dongle. Happy with it so far. I did order a polarized lens filter for it to cut down on windshield glare & reflections.

I've had the same camera (Blackvue) for about a year...great camera. Just switched it to my 2017 XE R Sport. Same location as you. I've found though, that because of the UV blocking windshield, I can,t get GPS data. Not that big a deal. So you get GPS with your setup?

I've since swapped to a 2016. The 2015 had a heated windshield and GPS was not an issue. I'm having issues with the dealership and my use of the ODBII / DLC port for radar detector power and haven't installed it in the 2016 which doesn't have the heated windshield. Where ever you decide to draw power from, verify that the car will hibernate by checking the hazard light goes out. If not you could end up with a dead battery.

Didn't know it would block GPS but i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that there is a portion of the UV windshield that is normal to allow for toll booth passes.

Although it's probably most likely that this position is no good for a dash cam.

Yes...good advice. Power to the 12V ports starts when vehicle is unlocked, and turns off when car is locked.

Yes...the small areas which have black dots by the review mirror do not restrict RF...best place for transponders, but not a good location for dash cams.

Yes....be mindful that behind the windshield radar detectors like Redline etc, their performance will be seriously degraded by UV windshields. I'm join to try and mount my redline up high behind the black dots, and detest how well it "sees" from there. The best bet for radar would be a remote mounted outside like the STiR plus from Beltronics....a great unit I had on my other car.

I've been having trouble with my radar detector and it is mounted in the "clear" zone on the driver's side of the rearview. Interestingly it gets GPS lock much faster than it did in my XF, but it has obviously deteriorated radar detection.
