I've wanted to install a dashcam for months but have not due to headliner issues. I thought the headliner issues wouldn't return so I purchased the dashcam. Well I said screw it and installed the dashcamn today. The following photos show how I routed the wires. A few things I would do differently. Blackout the white writing on the front dashcam bracket, get a larger crimp ground ring, and ensure the heating elements are not in the middle of the rear camera. I put some foam spacers on the left side of the battery before I velcroed it down. I hope the pictures are self explanatory. I know the front camera blocks the auto headlight feature but I never use it.

 

did you take the power supply cord from the front camera unit back to the trunk? Did you just go along the driver's side taking the same route?

 

Both cords run along the passenger side, they split were I hide the rear camera excess cord. The power cord continues into the trunk.

 

Awesome. What is the cellink box for and is that part of your install?

 

Cellink is a separate battery for the camera to run on so it doesn't draw any power from the cars battery. Its a complete package from blackboxmycar's website.

 

Oh cool. I was always worried about running one of these cameras off the car's battery when parked. I know they sell devices that cut the power when the battery drains to a certain threshold, but with the electrical gremlins some have reported with this car, what you have looks to be a much better solution.

 

I thought about getting the battery, but the PowerMagicPro works flawlessly. Haven't had a low battery issue since I have had it.

I just fitted my Blackvue to the left of the rear view mirror (or right in your case as mine is RHD), ok it's not central but it's close enough and you still get a full view out of the front.

In this position, you can't even see it from driver's eye view as it's completely hidden behind the mirror...doesn't your positioning detract slightly from the already limited visibility when trying to look out past the mirror?

 

If you're asking me, no I can't see the camera at all.

 

Low battery issue popped up while the car was at the dealership all week for another attempt to fix the headliner. Dealership says the Cellink was not letting the car go to sleep. I have removed the tap a circuit and moved the positive to the eco-battery.

 

How is it for passengers? Is it very noticeable for them?

 

The location I have chosen is slightly noticeable to the passenger but its not blatant in direct view.

 

I was thinking about that location as well, however from the outside it is very noticeable, and almost looks like its in the middle of the windshield, which is why i mounted mine higher, right behind the mirror on the left side.

 

Well that's unfortunate. So the Eco battery will drain while parked?

 

The cellink is rated for 72 hrs in parking mode and takes one hour of driving to charge. It should not drain the eco battery if you drive enough. By attaching to the eco battery the car should now go in sleep mode. If you don't drive the car enough at least the main battery will still start the car.

How is the revised setup working out?

 

I've been out of the country for a couple of weeks however since I've wired to the Eco-battery there's been no issue.

Wow! Great camera, I had no idea this existed. I am actually interested in a camera for the car but mainly for break ins etc. Wish they made one that had 360 view inside the car.
