Brand New F-Type SVR OIL OVERFILLED!
#21
I absolutely love my Jag and absolutely hate trying to determine what is going on with my oil level. Car shows "overfilled." Shop Foreman tells me it is 97% filled using more precise instrumentation, so not overfilled at all. RacerX points out that 96% filled is in fact fully filled. So accepting Shop Foreman's reading and RacerX's explanation then my car is 1% overfilled. Unhingd explains that this is all car specific and 3-4% variation is not significant. This is not helping my OCD..........
It’s a great car but with a lot of idiosyncrasies. Very well suited for this ISTP.

If you try to bring up the oil level read-out earlier than 10 minutes after you shut the engine down you won't get any reading at all, instead you will get a message along the lines of "not available check handbook". The fact that MK45 got one or more readings means he must have waited at least 10 minutes each time.
But I agree, way more risk putting it on a flatbed than just (gently) driving it in.

@Unhingd True, but what’s really bothering me is that the information is there but what I’m seeing is some dumbed down version that is throwing errors when potentially everything is fine. Ambiguous may have been the wrong word, but the key is this ambiguity could easily be avoided by providing somewhat less filtered data to the operator. Ambiguity is inevitable, but ambiguity that can be easily done away with, but isn’t, is definitely frustrating from an engineering standpoint.

My take away is I'm driving it and accepting life as it is. Now, that only comes after I confirmed that it was filled to 97%, which is close enough to be a non issue. OP, the OBD reader that the shop foreman used provided the 97% reading. If so inclined, I'm confident that you can obtain a reader for your own peace of mind.

All true. The fact that we don’t get a real dipstick to physically measure oil and a fully functional oil pressure gauge gall the crap out of me. Oil temp, boost and volt gauges also highly desirable, but apparently we’re considered too stupid to properly interpret what the readouts mean.
AJ133 Boost
AJ133 Engine Oil Temp
AJ133 Engine Oil Volume
AJ133 Gearbox Temp
AJ133 IAT2
AJ133 Locking Diff Oil Temp
AJ133 Oil Level
Still no way to read oil pressure AFAIK, the most important guage to monitor engine health.

TorquePro and a $10 OBD dongle gets you the high tech (crappy) digital versions of the basic gauges like voltage and oil temp and maybe 100 more things the car knows but doesn't want to tell. The public domain AJ133 package adds,
AJ133 Boost
AJ133 Engine Oil Temp
AJ133 Engine Oil Volume
AJ133 Gearbox Temp
AJ133 IAT2
AJ133 Locking Diff Oil Temp
AJ133 Oil Level
Still no way to read oil pressure AFAIK, the most important guage to monitor engine health.

Here is the dongle I use, there are probably better ones but it works

Just get an extraction pump, $100 or so on Fleabay, and extract a bit at a time while checking the level until it drops to the "max" mark.
A helluva lot cheaper and less hassle than getting the car flatbedded to the dealership, it doesn't matter that it's a new near car still under warranty.
