Broken plastic from suspension - need help ID'ing?
Hi guys, I found these clear/oxidized plastic pieces under my front right wheel hub the other day when pulling the car out of the garage. The car is a '16 R. The plastic is curved with adhesive on one side. I dug around and it looks like they're spring covers that go over the top coil by the spring isolator. The plastic is pretty flimsy and maybe just became brittle and broke off. I had the front isolators replaced last year. I can't imagine these serve any useful purpose, as brittle and thin as they are, but wanted to check with the group. Any thoughts?
Spring insulator, spring sleeve, they are there to dampen the sound when coil binds under load, you should be fine if you are not hearing anything.
Check for orange powdery stuff on your shock Mount from the engine bay, if your sleeves are falling apart, chance are the Mount bushing isn’t far from failing.
I had the front mounts/bushings replaced last year/3k miles ago, dealer must have just not replaced the spring covers along with the mounts. These covers breaking wouldn't cause the mount bushings to fail early, right? I can't imagine they would have any affect other than noise...
