Hi everyone - what is the reason for these differences in the I/O port layout under the arm rest? Was it by year, by infotainment type, trim level, something else?
I see the 2015 R has one aux, one USB. Some have one aux, two USB. The SVR has one aux, one white and one yellow USB? Then the 2018s have a couple blue USB, an HDMI, and a SIM card slot. The pre-2018s have some kind of eject button and a... slot? Is that for a CD or DVD? while the 2018s look to have a blocking plate. Lastly, what's that... red pull cartridge-looking thing on the 2018 R?
There's supposed to be a cover over the gear lever release (the "red thing"). I'm pretty sure that's to get the shifter to neutral for towing (8AT only). I don't have one, but recall seeing it in the owner's manual.
The rest is dependent on year and infotainment system.
This is all model year specific and has nothing to do with what engine or trim package (R-Dynamic, BDE etc) the car has. Since the MY2018 facelift the cars have the dual USB ports and HDMI port. Thought about testing the HDMI port in mine but never did. I think I saw somewhere long ago that someone connected an Alexa to it. I suspect that if you plug something in it just comes up as another audio/video media source in the car's media player.
All auto (at least RWD) F-Types have the red strap under a plastic cover. As said it's to put the gearbox in neutral without starting the car. That cover can be a b**ch to get off though, which can be pretty annoying if you need to get the car towed and can't get it off. As a preventive measure I pulled the cover off and removed one of the clips that holds it in place so it's much easier to remove if needed.
I've got a 2018 AWD R but no sign of anything red in there. MIne matches what you've shown as the R Dynamic.
Sounds like you do have the red strap then - it should be under the black cover. Unless AWD cars have the strap elsewhere. In XFs there's a difference between RWD and AWD cars. My RWD XF had the strap in the cubby like the F-Type and my AWD XF had it in the engine compartment under the engine cover.
My cubby connections are just like what you show for the 2016R and 2017S except mine's just the base 6 cylinder. I never realized there was even a cd player in there until about 3 years ago. It's a virtual... you put in whatever CD you want stored, upload it and then take that CD out and put in another. You can upload 10. The issue is the uploading. Unless you are in the car driving, you can't put the car in accessory mode and do it. The car shuts itself down after 15 minutes. Maybe I wasn't doing it correctly. Most CDs are about an hour. The touchscreen interface isn't the easiest to navigate for this process either.

I'll have to do a bit of digging, then! Thanks for the info.

That's such an anachronism, but also really cool. Dunno that I'll end up using it, but that's really interesting to know, thank you.

So if it had nothing to do with trim package, did they differentiate by options? What accounted for these changes? Why do some have two USB, some one? Why does the SVR have a yellow one?
playing video while parked from a portable DVD player?
Our '14 has the DVD/CD player built-in! Never used it tho', I'd rather DRIVE.
Anybody else remember the capability of 'saving' up to 10 CDs to play later? ADVANTAGE: They don't skip on frost heaves.
++++++++++++
That said, we have some thumb drives with our favorite music. Our car's CarPlay capability allows streaming and playbing music directly from saved music on our phone. (Hopefully, no audiophiles will mention reduced sound quality)
A note about the red strap and it's location?
Be aware that the AWD versions moved this item to under the hood for some reason.
That has been a mystery in the past. There is also another problem for the AWD guys.
Be sure the release tool (which is NOT needed for the RWD models) is still in your trunk! It has a short cable on it. There are differences depending on which Jaguar model you have but they will all look somewhat like this.
Attached is a set of instructions for using the release strap/lever and how to reset it. This is for the RWD cars.
Don't forget this does NOT release the EPB!

I'm confused - and I don't mean to question your experience, but in the pic of the 2018 R (AWD of course), it has the red release strap. What is that thing, compared to what you're showing?
You can't release the AWD versions WITHOUT the tool I have pictured above. Note the plastic clips. They connect together so that tool can pull on the cable putting the transmission in N.
This part with the red strap;
There is a cap or protector on the engine compartment end and JLR put the red ribbon on it so you can find it under the hood.
Need's to clip into this part;
Now you can "pull the trigger" releasing the transmission. I have circled the brass pivot point in red. It's a bit hard to see the handle but it's all manual.
Now thinking a bit about this. I wonder if you could just pull on that steel cable with pliers to release the transmission. If you did not have that special tool?
Anybody try? Is it hard to pull?

100% agree. It’s there and no where else. Almost impossible to get the cover off with tools let alone if you are stranded somewhere without a screwdriver. Have loosened mine as well just in case
